Default Who makes the best tent stoves?

I've been looking on the internet for tent stoves. Seems like the ones from Davis Tent are a good value and come with the water heater and warming rack. My wife would like an oven unit that fits on the stovepipe. I might just oblige her for the benefits it would bring...turkey with all the trimmings?

I just bought an inferno stove from Kwiklkamp. Have not used it in the tent yet. I did fire it up to burn off the paint. I stuffed it FULL at about 9:30pm with some dry fir & damped it down. It still had a good bed of coals at 8:am the next morning. I'm stoked no more having to get up and stoke the stove at night. As for the water heater and oven they are both a PIA as far as I'm concerened. The oven is very hard to regulate temp and the water heater is only for when you need to heat water. You can't just fill it and leave on the stove all the time. They make noise, boil dry, and warp. A big canner kettle works just as well and a lot cheaper.
I thought the oven deal was a good idea but I sold it with my last stove.
Get one that sits on top of your propane cook stove.

I made a stove pretty much identical to the davis stove for under $100. They are very simple to make. It will hold a fire all night. kwik camp stoves are very nice also my friend has one and it works quite well. Both of our tents are 14x16x5. If you weld or know someone who does making your own is a good option.

Cool Re: Who makes the best tent stoves?

does pipe size make a diffrence in getting a stove to burn all night because getting up is the one thing i hate, My stove uses 6" Stove pipe with two 90 DEG angles.

I've got a Cylinder Stove with the water tank on the side. I think Davis sells these stoves also, but you could buy direct from Cylinder Stove in Utah also. I've got the second largest size and a 15x21 tent, it will keep it warm all night. I think how you have the damper set matters more than the size of the pipe.

I have a Cylinder stove, and it rocks. KwikKamp makes a good one too. You can find the Cylinder brand locally in the Portland area.

We bought the cast iron stove from Harbor Freight, 129.00.
It gets rockin but doesn't keep as good of a coal bed as my old shepards stove.
Any one know where to get 6" stove pipe?

Salt,

We use a barrel stove in one tent in the other we use a kwik camp I'v used both kwikcamp and cylinder stoves I have both I like the Kwikcamp the best as long as we are able to get wood. if no wood is available (eastern montana) I use pellet stove. but the kwikcamp seems to be a higher quality (heavier) stove.

hope this helps

It depends on your requirements. Are you horse camping, or truck camping? We for the most part truck camp, so stove weight isn't really an issue. I have a large Cylinder stove and it is the best stove I've used, but I wouldn't pack it on a horse.

My next will be the KwikKamp. Our old one has warped, rewarped, and then warped again. But it still makes toast!

I just ordered a new Inferno stove from KwikKamp yesterday and they informed me that they will coming to Jantzen Beach around the 2nd Saturday in April and I could pick the stove up there and save around 72.00 shipping. If anyone was looking at getting a stove for a wall tent this might be a great time to get a Kwikkamp stove and save the shipping cost. Just though I would pass it along.

The Sheephearder stoves by Kni-Co out of Wallowa.

We've used them for years.

Here's some pics I grabbed of a stove down at Andy & Back's.
~$150 show price. All fits inside stove, including pipe which is made from swaged 4" muffler pipe.

Pretty simple and just thick enought to last years & years.
I could see me welding the ends of those tubes shut for water heaters.
Add a spiget & fill hole....hot water for the shower bag!

Yep this is the one we've used for packing for the last 30yrs or so. Very light and works well enough for horse work.
However, the thin gage sheet metal doesn't like super red hot use and tends to rust/burn out after a few seasons.
BUT it is one of the lightest on the market... if not THEE lightest for packing.
The door tends to warp and draft too much air, making it a requirement to stoke it a couple times a night. 3-4hr burn time when loaded for the night with solid limb wood and dampered down.

Kwikkamp! We love ours and use it to heat a 24 x 16 in a fairly cold environment. Put a load of wood in and turn the damper down and you'll have coals in the morning to fire it back up quickly.

Another Kwikkamp happy user. I think I have the Blaze model (middle sized) and it does very well in my 12 X 14 wall tent.

Anyone use the Tundra take down stove? It is thicker gauge and is powder coated. Also comes apart and I bet it is UPS shippable. Also their largest stove.

Take down would=not air tight and would use more wood with shorter burn times. With all the Kwikkamp stoves recommended-why not? As stated they are coming to PDX the first part of April and would bring a stove freight free.
