Default Sandy River Winter Steelhead Bounty Collected

As many of you may know, and if you dont you will now. We offer $10.00 in free tackle to the person who brings up the first hatchery fish of each run. Now so far this year there have been plenty of rumors of hatchery Winter Steelhead in the Sandy River, however the closest proof has only been cell phone pics of wild released winters steelhead!

Today was the day! a friend called me today to tell me he went 4 for 6 with two released wild steelhead and two kept hatchery fish and was on his way in to show them off.

Not to shabby for a run that doesnt exist until Febuary. Fishing may not be red hot by any means, but these are not the only two in the river! The early bird gets the worm!

Still must be said, I think a better chance is in the Clack right now.

Those can't be clipped winter steelies from the Sandy. Everybody, and I mean everybody, knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that the hatchery fish don't show up on the Sandy until almost February.

He's joking, cuz so many folks say the rivers arent worth fishing until Spring. Get out there.

Sorry Jester. I thought my over-the-top hyperbole was enough to let everyone know I was just joking. Heck, if I didn't spend the day working on my truck I'd have been on the Sandy myself.

I look at it much like the silver run: you can be one of the few folks fishing over a few dozen unharassed fish early on or you can be one of many dozens of guys flogging the water over a couple hundred lockjawed fish later in the season.

OK, well as long as I don't see you until the run comes in February. I ended up going back out and releasing another nate.
