Yes, great show, I rush home to watch it every week. just like the movie "The Perfect Storm" the show incorporates all my favorite things (Fishing, Boats, the ocean and stormy weather) into one package. the only thing that bugs me is they spend half of the show recapping the previous weeks show. I am sitting in my "captains recliner" barking at the TV tellin them to get back to fishin !!!

Now that the fishery has gone IFQ the drama has gone way down. It seems at times they are inventing drama, at least last year it was that way. The derby is over, so why are some of these boats going out in such poor ocean conditions? With the IFQs in place it should be a much safer fishery - but, boats still go down.

I always thought getting rid of the derby would make things safer. Maybe not.

Anyway, I watch it regular, my fav really. My wife even bought me a "shut up and fish" Northwestern baseball cap for my birthday last month. Not sure what she paid, prob too much, but I like the hat.

It's really refreshing to see that you can glean a little bit of pleasure from watching a TV show that documents an actual selective harvest commercial fishery that makes some sense and doesn't further endanger already severely deppressed stocks. Could there be hope for you, yet?

I have watched all the seasons and enjoy it-the only show I look forward to.

I also know some guys that fish (off camera) right next to them. Like everything else- the show fleet has become a little star struck-hence the extra drama (I think).

Keep fishing the big sea and know why AK King crab is $16 a pound.

E H
When the fishery was "rationalized" the processors got shares of the processing end of the fishery. Each catcher boat was assigned which processor they had to sell their crab to. The processors tell their boats to get out there and get er done so they don't have to keep their people in Dutch any longer than they have to. Kind of complicated and most of the fishermen are not real happy about that part of the deal but you know how money always talks....even if safety is put in the back seat.
Tight lines ......Ray

I gotta say that I like the Cornelia Marie and that crew best, although the boat with gal that went from hugging the toilet to sorting crab definitely has some potential

Man, Id love to get out on the ocean and do some hard work, but people dying for crabs? Bothers me a little bit. Dont think ill be eating any king Crab anytime soon.

I wish the show was on when I was crabbing because I never got feeling anyone really understood what we were doing up there? I would come home and tell my friends about 20-36 hour days, 30-40 foot seas, and temperatures so cold you would **** on your gloves to try and warm your hands. I crab fished right out of high school for 5 years 91'-95'. Over my 5 years I primarily fished Bering Sea on a couple different Enterprise boats out of Seattle. I did 2 king crab trips in Russia in 1994 in the Sea of Okhost after the Russian goverment changed. Homeport was chilly Magadan Siberia. The Sea of Okhost made the Bering Sea look look a duck pond on a couple of occasions I will never forget. When I look back at that time in my life I think of it as time some of my friends spent in the the service, only I made a lot of money. I learned how to keep my mouth shut and work hard. The hardest thing was the lack of sleep. I don't miss it one bit.

Those guys have a lot of guts. The show is almost always enjoyable and last night was the first time I got to see a new show. I have caught bits and pieces of reruns of the first two shows so I am kinda caught up now.

Blake has blown it with Phil though. I wonder if he will give him some bad info for some payback. I would not blame him if he did this. Should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I like this show quite a bit, and others like PE too.

Sure sucks to split a recently repaired prop blade while trying to crab so I feel bad for that crew and boat, that's an expensive repair and time consuming too.

I think Blake may win the bet also, but he shouldn't have shared the "spot" with that other boat.
Good show though

Cool Re: Deadliest Catch - Discovery Channel

I watch it every week and sometimes more as they seem to play the reruns regularly.
I love being out on the ocean as long as the up and down stuff isn't more than a 6 ft or so. These guys are dealing with motion that makes me want to (frappp) just watching from my easy chair. Hats off to those guys,
I think the show was better before they made celebrities out of the boat captains and crew. I think the producers may be taking over the helm.
Still gonna watch though!!! Go Sigg.
The new arrogant kid skipper (thanks to daddy) needs to learn a few leasons about loyalty and finding the hot spot on his own trial and error. He went right to asking favors . To easy. Needs to scrape his knuckels a little more.

I was at Fisherman's Terminal in Seattle and saw some of those boats featured on the show over the past seasons. Those boats looked small in person.

Arrogant maybe, but spoiled I don't see how. He worked his way up to where he is and, if you saw this week, is still the best engr on the boat.

Anyone see this week's episode? Time Bandit was on the spot with that rescue. That guy was really lucky the Time Bandit was there and paying attention, I doubt his boat would have made it back in time to save him.

I am not quite sure they even realized he fell off till the Time Bandit said something. You can see how high the emotions run on the high sea. Seems to peel away the front that people put up. It was obvious what that captain was thinking. It could be his family losing a Dad. It's good to see that! Here's to the Time Bandit!

I would like to thank the discovery channel for airing a television show that I can watch and keeps me interested. Deffinitly the best show on T.V.

Actually the boat that they showed was a longline boat fishing for halibut and is (was) quite a bit smaller than those that are in the crab fleet. They evidently only had about 10K of fish left to catch for the season and were pushing the envelope to try and get done for the year. So much for pushing the envelope in October!

Bill and I watch it but afterwards it takes about an hour or two to get 'untensed' enough to go to sleep. Man that show grips me!

Neither one of us can lean back and watch it. It's always sitting up straight, and sometimes even leaning forward a bit, jaws and muscles clenched!
