Default Invasion of the hummingbird!

I have never seen anything like it!
I swear! We have 16 hummies at one feeder... and we have THREE and they are all full, with a cloud of waiting hummies, behind!

Here are some pics!

Bill doesn't quite have the technique down. I had three sitting on my hand for quite a while!

Anyhow, they are beautiful, and the last two days has seen a new migration or "run" of hummies.

It's facinating. I wish everyone could experience it. I had two on my shoulder, some in my hair, man, they are everywhere!

Jennie,

That is sooooo cool.

The key is quality nesting habitat.

What a wonderful treat.

Jen-
your pictures are amazing!!! You must have a fabulous camera-keep those hummers comin'
I'm waiting for my fushia's to bloom at the beach house so our hummers will come back-we aren't there fulltime to tend the feeders-so we'll have to wait a bit.
thanks so much for sharing!!

We used some instant a week ago, so it's still pink. You do not need dye in your food. In fact, it's not good for the formation of eggs, so don't use it. (food coloring). This is beet juice or something in the instant mix I bought at the bird place.

Anyhow, it's just 1 cup sugar to 3-4 cups water.

Make sure to boil it or it will get moldy too fast.

(That is, if it lasts! During peak season, we fill these up twice a day!)

You will need to clean your feeder every few days, with hot water and a mild (10%) bleach solution to inhibit mold. Rinse thoroughly before refilling with water syrup.

Very cool.. love the hummers at the window. I had seen that before at the old restaurant at the Jordan Creek Rd on Hiway 6. You would sit down near the window and you could hear the hum through the window, all their feeders were swarming with hummers - I really like that place for that reason alone.

What a treat! gus

Your pics, and the recipe gave me renewed determination to try and feed hummers. That must be something to be that close to those birds.

It is so noisy right by the feeder. I wish I could share this with everyone. When people come over. I kid you not... even the charter internet guy, I invite them in to see.

The charter guy was so enthralled that he wouldn't leave!

He had on a yellow and red striped vest. They loved him!

Those are cool.

We get a few where we live now but growing up on the upper Clackamas river we had hoards of them too, used to do the finger thing for hours on end.

Thanks Jen.
