I was thinking about forming a weight loss support group.
No! No kidding! I somehow put on 10 pounds. I guess it's cuz I can't work out like I did. Not that I ever worked out alot, but I'm just less active, and I can't do sit ups, etc. Anyhow, I was thinking it would be fun to follow some kind of 10 day diet with a bunch of people and be supportive to each other. You know, even have a private mail in weigh in? Or, how bout a duplicate of the contest like on TV? That would be fun!!! I dunno. Just looking for thoughts. I'm not that overweight, but I'm uncomfortable, and felt much better 10 pounds less than I am. Who would be interested? Anyone? ![]() Whatever we do, I was thinking of finding a 10 day specific kind of foods diet, weighing in at start, and just chatting about where we are having problems... maybe have a chat at night, to see how we are doing through out the thing. Just fun.. nothing serious. Jen

i would be interested. I have been going to the gym by my house but by the end of the work day I am often to tired to go. However, I have been going about twice a week. I am looking to lose ten pounds. I am at 200 and would like to be 190.

OK, so when do we start? what do we do?
I think it would be fun to follow a menu. (EVERYONE!) Like go shopping and get all the same stuff and have fun preparing it. You know, you can eat really well and still diet! In fact, that's the whole point. Or, we could all get different stuff and post our menus, then we could steal from each other, and say, 'OH! that sounds good!" and cook it the next night. I think that's what I'll do. I think I'll start by posting my menu of the day. I'd love it if some of you post non fattening recipes too! I'm going to start.... um... Wednesday! anyone else brave enough to post your start and end weight?

Jen,
I've been trying to loose wait too. So far I've lost about 12 lbs. I am on a high fiber diet for breakfast and lunch then eat a sensible dinner and I use a small 9 inch plate istead of a large dinner plate. I have alot more energy and thats what I need to run my bait shop with all these fishermen coming and going. I don't have time to cook much anymore. But my slow cooker helps me out alot. Lots of vegetables. Lots of fresh fruit. I love strawberrys. I love bananas. I love apples.I also use my blender for my green drinks. SUPER FOODS ! Needless to say I am well cleaned out. But I know its good for my insides, and thats where it all begins. I also drink ONE GLASS of water at the TOP of every Hour. I want to loose 10 more pounds please! These are just a few of my ideas. Hope they help out some. Marie ![]() PS Ive lost one pound . 9 more to go. BID DEAL! Seems when I pay attention to calories the weight comes off.3/2/06PS Ive lost another pound 8 more to go. 3/4/06 ![]() I've lost another pound Sunday March 5th ![]() Three (3) pounds lost since March 1st. Day 5.You see I have to loose the 10 lbs so I can fit into a dress come June. Myras getting married!

I am in. I have lost 40 pounds since October. All I did was cut out fast food, start eating healthy, and get some regular excersize. The weight has fallen off. I would still like to lose about 10 more, and I am sure I will. It's not that hard if you REALLY want to do it.

My wife and I decided to join a gym 5 weeks ago (first for me in 14yrs) and now at a weight loss of 24lbs and 70 more to go!!! It's nice having someone to work out with. The encouragment is the for the both of us all the time. Having a group like this will be that much more drive for me. The support from my wife and all the Ifishers!! Great idea Jen!! We work out 3 night a week for 45 minutes (cardio) and Sunday morning before Church we work out (cardio) for another 20 minutes and swim for 45 minutes. This rutine work great. It's 11:00 at night and I feel like going to the gym now just talking about it. See Jen it already works!!! I'm in.

I have to cook vegetarian for my boys, and Bill likes meat.
Meat isn't fattening in itself, but it's going to be hard to cook, now! When I was pregnant, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Long story short, by the end of my pregnancy, I was to either eat no more than 1000 calories a day, or I was going to the hospital. I chose 1000 calories. I ate burger patties at night, with salad and non fat dressing, and veggies, and bread with no butter. I'm going to start there! Oatmeal for breakfast, with a little bit of butter and a little bit of brown sugar. (No more pools of beautiful butter and br. sugar! WAH!) OK, it starts Wednesday! So, have fun until then! Just remember, anything you put on from now till then will have to come off, too!!!! I'm going to put everyone who posted on this that they are in, on the Wednesday diet list! Jen

I need to work out but am going to wait until all the OT gets cut off at work, don't hardly have enough time to sleep as it is. I'm 6' and 190 pounds, would like to get down around 175 or so. But with spring around the corner the weekends will be filled with alot more outdoor activities.

For what's it's worth......
I started out buy cutting all the processed, starchy, and sugary foods in my diet. Exersize: On my 15 miniute break at work, I go for a walk. I can walk 1 mile during one break. This is how I started but you have to want it. 40 pounds later and it's still gone. (your mileage may very) |

Catch and Eat, we don't allow multiple sales of anything, let alone pounds. Sheesh.
Hey, um... you guys? I still don't know how we are going to do this! We have a support group, though, by golly!

Okay... Ive got some info on the eating/ exercising plan. Problem is... it will be a lot different depending on the body size, sex, activity level etc. of the individual.
High fiber, low fat, and well rounded is the key to losing it and keeping it off (plus some kind of increased activity plan). Fact is that energy (calories) taken in counts, but "counting" so to speak doesn't work for a lot of people because they feel restricted. I have access to recipes and exercise plans etc., but I'm not sure where or what to post??? Ali

ok, if anyone cares, here's an example of my diet today. This has worked well so far. I am down another 2 pounds over last week.
6:30AM Protein powder and 8oz skim milk 9:30AM package of low sugar oatmeal 1 banana 1 cup low fat yogurt 12:00PM 6" turkey on whole wheat from Subway. No mayo, all the vegies 3:00PM 1 orange 1 cup low fat yogurt 1 handful of almonds (I have big hands) 5:45PM 1 moderate portion of salmon and whole grain pasta 1 large green salad w/low fat Italian dressing 1 large apple 8:30PM 1 orange half bag of popcorn (low fat, microwave stuff) In between this I managed a little over a gallon of water, and 2 glasses of ice tea. Sometimes I have a Pepsi with lunch also (not more than twice a week though, since its not diet). Sometimes for lunch I will substitute a tuna or roast beef sandwich, or terriyaki chicken with brown rice. Dinner is whatever my wife has fixed. I just try to keep it a sensible sized portion. For exercise, I ran 4.5 miles at 7:00AM. I pretty much stick to this diet at least 6 days a week. I find that eating every few hours consistently, helps me not feel hungry, and I don't eat as much when I do eat. The 3:00 snack is a big thing because it keeps me from being starving (and overeating) at dinner. Usually 1 day a week I give in and eat something bad (for me its pizza). i just don't overdo it. Where before I could eat a large by myself, I now eat only 2-3 slices. I also don't rule out anything completely. If I want something (like candy bar, etc), I first drink a full glass of water and wait five minutes. if I still want it, I will eat it (or maybe half of it). More often than not though, after 5 minutes I have forgotten about it. Eating right shouldn't feel like punishment. And I am not a big fan of feeling hungry. If I feel hungry, I eat something. I just try to make it something healthy. my .02c RF

Rouge I am going to try that idea about drinking a glass of water when I want a snack and then waiting 5 min. I am like you if I want to eat I do. I am going to try to cut back though. For instance, on a Friday night I can eat a half of a family size pizza. I am going to stick to two or three slices and lots of water.

OK, here we go! I'm going to pin this to the top for 10 days... Until March 10th, which... luckily is a Friday! That means that by next Friday, we will be thinner, healthier feeling and will get to celebrate on the weekend!
I'm going to the store, this morning. Follow me! We are going to start in the veggie isle. I have to be really careful as I can't eat too many greens, or it will throw my INR count off. I can't eat too much Vitamin K stuff. YOU probably can, so load up! I'm buying those tiny carrots, lots of apples and fruit, celery, (Going to chop up and have read celery and carrot sticks for snacks) anyhow... lots of veggies. Line the bottom of your shopping cart with veggies! Then, I can't do without sweets. Good ones are graham crackers, fortune cookies, (which REALLY taste good when you are deprived!!!) and what else??? Ideas? Yogurt... chicken, lots of fish (which I already have in the freezer).... Anyhow, for breakfast this morning I'm having oatmeal with frozen blueberries, (thawed out from the freezer) and a banana. For lunch, I'm having a turkey sandwich with light mayo, lots of mustard and lots of iceburg lettuce. (Can't have the good stuff, cuz of Vitamin K!) and an orange. Dinner? Haven't planned that far, but I think a hamburger patty, a baked potatoe, and more salad. Canned pears for desert, and lots of celery and carrots in between to snack on! Jen

Oh yeah, Diet Tip: Don't deprive yourself! If I want a bite of my Birthday cake, I'm going to have a bite! Just not a four inch slice!!!
![]() Be good to you. Just for this week, have no fat lattes, skim milk, short on the butter, or use heart smart or something. I'm adding that to my grocery list, now. Use olive oil for cooking. You need good oils! My cardiologist always says, "Want to lose fat? Quit eating it! Fat in, Fat on!" It's true! Eat whatever you want, just trim the fats! Jen

Anyone else? Should we weigh in, or keep it private and just list how many pounds we lost!? I just think we should weigh this morning, then not again till Friday.

Your body is unable to tell the difference between being hungry and being thirsty. The hungry feeling is given for both. You probably won't notice that you are hungry until your mouth is dry. This is because you are dehydrated. drinking water should be done on a regular basis throughout the day. Also 90% of headaches are because of dehydration. Next headache reach for water not the Tylenol, Excedrin, etc. Hope this helps.

Another tip: There's a website called fitday. It's free. You can sign up and track your daily intake... it pretty much does it for you. Calories, carbs, fats, protein, fiber, even nutrients and exercise.
Makes tracking your diet soooo much easier!

A small step, but a step, nonetheless. BEFORE this, I would have stopped for a Lochmead Dairy ice cream cone after the Steelheaders meeting last night, but I resisted!

I already began working on losing some weight but will join in on the fun.
Here is my routine BREAKFAST small bowl of cereal, high fiber with fruit MID_MORNING - eat a piece of fruit LUNCH - soup and salad, oil and vinegar for salad dressing no cheese, a couple of croutons MID-AFTERNOON - another piece of fruit DINNER - small portions, avoid potatoes. Eat chicken, fish, LEAN red meat and lots of veggies. Key is small portions, for meat that means about the size of a deck of card. I walk 4 miles a day. 2 miles to and from my car to my office (uphill both ways ) Weekends I slack off a bit, but still try and avoid most breads and potatoes. Good side is that avacados, olive oil, whole grain bread, hummas etc. all are okay and taste better then most "junk food" alternatives. Plus apples, I really like apples. I have not stopped drinking, but rather have cut back and pretty much avoid beer. I am waiting till I hit a plateau and then will stop drinking to help break through. Under this routine I have been losing 10 lbs a month so far. EK

Diet trick! Diet trick!
This is a good one! I went to Nordstroms cafe the other day. it puzzled me why I like their salads so much. It's simple! You just have to chop up the lettuce, more! I love shredded lettuce. Also, less dressing goes further if you chop it up and mix it before hand. So.... Freddies has bagged salad two for one. That's a good deal! Buy a bunch! Then-- chop it up with a butcher knife. You know, just go across it so it's long, and skinny. Not too long.... just 1/2 inch and bigger. Then, add all the goodies, and add your dressing. I found that what one person uses, will spread around the whole bag! In fact, I even had to add spinach to make it enough for the fam! Then-- serve it, but kind of mold it on the plate. Add a couple apples underneath, sliced... or pears. I used poppyseed dressing. Briannas. It is SO good! Better than desert! Jen

I was really bad yesterday. I think it had to do with three days of being good.
Supersized Rum Gimlet(diet sprite), roast beef, mashed potatoes(skim milk), gravy, peas, ice cream(Breyers no sugar added) w/hot fudge...and a chocolate chip cookie. However, I still remember what I learned at WW. It was only one meal and it wasn't bad enough to scrap the whole diet. Today, I will do better

I'm in as of last Monday. A couple injuries in early 2005 really slowed me up and this fall and winter I put on some tonnage.
I need to increase my metabolism, so my goal is to get in a brisk walk of 2 to 4 miles each evening. Once daylight savings time arrives, I'll try to get in a bike ride at least every other day. For this 10 day plan, I'm keeping mineral water at my desk to quench the hunger pangs. Then a Slimfast type drink for lunch. And a light supper. No pretzels, chips in the evening.

I was doing so good. Went for a brisk 3 mile walk. Once I returned home my wife was just pulling out some fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. I only had one.....Ok two.
Back on track tomorrow

This is turning into a "How I screwed up my diet" thread. I love it!
![]() Tonight I had a piece of KFC. yuck, that stuff is awful! Andrew wouldn't eat it cuz he's on a Peta strike! I kid you not! He won't eat animals. He's really ticked at how our country treats animals that we eat. It's not much about not eating animals, but just about how we process them. He thinks it's cruel and wasteful. After eating that, I think he's onto something. I feel so sick! How much grease is in that stuff???/ ISH! Back to my diet, first thing tomorrow! Jen

The Girl Scouts got me today: "wanna buy some cookies?"
One little Brownie made a special trip out to the car to get me a box of the Samoas (they were sold out - except her mom bought a whole case and I could have one out of their own private stash). I guess I could say even though I bought them, I don't have to eat them, but I know better. |

I made chicken fajitas (without cheese or sourcream :depressed
and a big green salad for dinner. Filled me up and tasted yummy. I think I'm doing pretty well, but I've been avoiding the De-Liar until next Friday.

Started Atkins 8 days ago and started running everyday but one. The first and second days I made it about 1/4 mile and had to walk the rest of the way. Now I am running .7 miles everyday after work. I just got home from work at 245 am and still went out and ran it in the rain. In a few days I am going to go a little farther and then up it every fews days until I hit a couple miles.
Anyway I just weighed myself before leaving work and I weigh 222. Down from 237 8 days ago. That is 15 pounds. Now the clothes my wife got me for christmas fit. |

I've gained a pound. THAT doesn't help much with my resolve.
I'm going to try something today, though, and maybe for the rest of the week: I umpire high school softball and the season begins in ONE week (if the fields are playable, that is), so I'm going to sit at the computer WITHOUT MY CHAIR. I'm always so sore after the first few games because the season always seems to sneak up on me. Maybe going public with my intention to be more prepared physically will help. Okay, this is harder than it sounds: try it!! |

10 pounds in 10 days sounds unhealthy ...and I'd have to do it 7 times
![]() I'm going to try the "no more fast food, no more white food (potatoes, rice, breads), eat healthy, get some exercise" deal and see how that goes before I commit to things involving too much starvation (I'm a "grumpy when hungry" guy). But, my carharts are getting tight and they were my "fat boy" pants! It is definitely time to do something. And I like the idea of a support group ...its encouraging to read other people's results and it's uplifting to be able to post results for yourself too. Brian

I've been jogging with a little walking thrown in everyother day for a little over a mile and a half. I have not lost any weight but I am walking less and jogging more. leggs are starting to tone (if you look real hard). I was eating well untill my wife made enough enchiladas for three meals. We finished them last night so back to fruits, veggies and lean protien. This losing weight is hard with 4 kids that are 6 and under and a wife that is a fantastic cook.
Good luck all.

I was pleased to get in walks of 4-2-2 miles on Fri-Sat-Sun.
I also mix it up with jogging. Slowly increasing the intervals. Skipped the "boat snacks" during Sundays outing and had hot Earl Gray tea instead. Kaiser Permante has free pedometers, recomended goal is 10,000 steps daily - roughly 5 miles.
