Heading out to Tri-Cities, WA next week. Would love to take my son fishing. Looking for and advice on what is biting this time of year, or what season is open? Any action on the Columbia around McNary or Snake? Willing to drive to get there.
This time of year I would say either Walleye or Sturgeon. Good spots below the dam. I would launch at Irrigon for Walleye, just look for the floatilla of boats doing the walleye drifts. Big fish this time of year. Good Luck
Run4cvr is right, walleyes or sturgeon for three or four weeks before the springers get here. You can fish right in Kennewick or Wallula if you don't want to drive to Irrigon.
If you're bank fishing you can still fish off the bank at ringold for steelhead for a few more weeks but the fish are pretty dark and not very plentiful.
You can trout fish at Dalton (Big Flat) lake off the bank also.
This time of year I'd drift eggs or **** shrimp, but you also can bobberdog, plunk, or throw spinners.
The water just jacked up from 70Kcfs to 102K a few days ago, so the drift fishing isn't quite as easy but the change may stir the fish up a bit.
