There is a new product on the market called "Fusion" which is a spray paint for plastic. I used it as a primer for my crab floats and then painted them the color I wanted. Worked GREAT!
You can buy the paint "primer" at any Ace Hardware Store or FM.
"Fusion" is made by Krylon and is designed to bond to plastic. I haven't tried it yet, but was suprised to see it while shopping for rattle can's the other day. Looks like it could be a winner.
I have found that if you paint the styrofoam with a couple of coats of latex as a primer that the enamil will not eat the foam. Have used this method for years to strengthen & smell proof the cheap foam fish boxes.
I got it from englund Marine in Newport, but Im sure other marine supply stores have it. a little more costly than other paints/coatings, but youll never paint them again. The stuff is actually made for PVC inflated floats, but works great on foam, use a non-solvent primer.
Check the regs on which waters you are going to use them. Some states specify colors for crab floats. I think in Washington waters crab floats must be red and white, and shrimp floats are yellow.
Great information everyone, thanks! I'll be giving it a try.
