I would check the forest service regs for the area you are going to be in. Most areas are fine, as long as you DONT SHOOT ACROSS THE LAKE.

I have seen people do it (non-hunters) and it scares...

Words of advice, go to a gun range that rents pistols. See it as an investment, as you can try different models, calibers etc. Then make a decision.

We do produce a lot of the raw materials here including cotton (we grow a lot of cotton here in the states), but most of it is processed overseas.

I did say cotton, but I was mainly using it as an example. as Trick has stated there isnt much for infrastructure for most kinds of "clothing material". Most of the tooling/machinery has been moved...
