Any of you back woods wanderers ever use trekking poles? I have never used them myself, but have noticed their recent popularity. Are they an asset or just more weight?

Well the boy leaves tomorrow for two weeks of boot camp with the Washington county search and rescue team. I’m going to miss the kid…….I wonder if they will give him leave to mow the lawns?
