Re: Dock prices for Tuna?

What if a Dockside Seafood Market bought Tuna from "Sport/commercial" boats and sold it to the public? Who would you support then colbachlaw? Would they still be selling month old fish or would it be...

Re: Astoria riding on the backs of sportsmen...

If the whole town of Astoria snubbed sports fishermen and doesn't care about their money, it seems at least someone could come up with a name or a business that resides in the City limits...(without...

Re: Astoria riding on the backs of sportsmen...

Any further info on this? Not saying it didn't happen...but would be nice to get a few more details. Was it at a Astoria Council Meeting? The mayor speak out or something? A city-wide vote?

Re: Garibaldi tuna for sale?

$2.50 if you buy 5 or more fish. There is a glut for the 4-5 day old tuna. We are paying WAY over $1.00 for the really fresh stuff.

Re: buying tuna

Few questions. You going to jar 1/2 pint or pint jars? Is a case 12?

84 pint jars would be 75 to 80lb's of loins which would be roughly 145-150lbs of whole tuna. Last year the average...

Re: Razor clamming seaside tues&wed

Agree! Everyone go to Long Beach...Digging on the North Oregon Coast is terrible. A handful of tiny clams is all people get...(btw since we are correcting the spelling of Oregon cities it's...

Re: Columbia closed nets ???

The ones that were raised in, and released out of Youngs Bay net pens will stay there because they think that is where they were born. The Upriver ones will head over the dam.

Re: Cause for alarm?

Willamette fish caught by Commercials has never been an issue in both the SAFE areas and mainstem...(They might catch 20% of their allowed quota if they are lucky)

Upriver fish that are headed...

Re: Columbia closed nets ???

Mainstem is guesswork, but select areas are under a microscope. ODFW was camped out at every fish buyer within 20 miles of Youngs Bay on Friday morning. When T Point opens they don't even let the...

Re: Columbia closed nets ???

I've seen very few Wild Fish delivered from the Select areas so far. The main issue is the Upriver Clipped fish. I saw about 35 fish delivered on Friday and half were Upriver Clipped and 1 was wild....

Re: How Did the Gillnetters Do?

Whoops mis-spoke on that

Enhancement is only for Select area fish and wouldn't apply to CR mainstem caught salmon.

Re: How Did the Gillnetters Do?

Yes they all got between $8.50 and $9.25 for Adults and around $6.50 for Jacks. This is in the round whole fish, as CR commercials cannot touch the fish with a knife...only Trollers can cut em. $8.50...

Re: Columbia sport extension: Live Compact coverage

Just looked at last years Commercial numbers and it looks like they have the 34 Jacks caught separated out. I would think Jacks would be the easiest to catch, as Tanglenets (4.25in gillnets) were...

Re: Columbia sport extension: Live Compact coverage

Actually a pretty good question. The Jacks we bought were reported to the State when they called. Don't know if they are added to the total or not. Judging by the ratio, I doubt more than 50 were...

Re: Steelhead caviar… start to finish.

Steelhead hands down. They pretty much taste like nothing (or taste like whatever you add to em). All salmon eggs have a fishy taste to me.

Re: Fresh Spring Chinook

They wouldn't be test fish. Won't see test fish on the market till late March. Probably caught in Youngs Bay during one of the regular openers.

Re: Buoy 10 moves to fin-clip chinook only on Friday

While cleaning Commercial fish out of Young's Bay today I saw 2 that were completely gone...of course I also saw about 40 other Rouge's that were half grown back. First time I've actually paid...

Re: Nearing the Chinook allotment?

A lot of shoulder shrugging and "what...who...me?" going on here. Anyone involved in the Buoy 10 fishery knows there is a crapload of Chinook being caught. Probably at 8-9k right now. 1000 a day adds...

Re: TUNA and electric filet knives

Yes this. I bought 2 serrated 10" Victorinox Knives 3 years ago and still use this first one after 5,000 or so tuna. Just a light steel on the non-grove side daily keeps it sharp enough, but doesn't...
