Re: Victory on the Sandy

Scrubs,

My bad! I did not say and did not mean to imply that the size of male steelhead is a determinate factor in reproductive fitness where both a wild and hatchery male find themselves in a...

Re: upper Deschutes salmon and steelhead question

It is likely that progeny of these wild fish will return and be considered natural origin spawners at which time they will be subject to ESA protections. The list of issues that could arise from...

Re: Victory on the Sandy

For the sake of discussion it really does not matter what we as individuals think about the native no native issue as at least in Oregon there exists a legal definition within the Native Fish...

Re: Victory on the Sandy

According to the ODFW person in charge of PST there was recently a 15% reduction in Southeast Alaska and 30% off the coast of west Vancouver Island. I confirmed this but will check again.

Re: Updated science in hatchery/wild debate!

In the above example you are assuming that the bottleneck in widget production is the number of work stations when in fact it could be a shipping or receiving issue.

Re: Updated science in hatchery/wild debate!

Not asked of me but I would say your question is not tough at all. What the study is saying is that, while individual reproductive fitness might be reduced by hatcheries, that is only one factor and...

Re: Updated science in hatchery/wild debate!

With all due respect during the height of hatchery production there was no way to determine how many wild fish there were. Hatch boxes were every where, hatchery programs were much larger than...

Re: Hatchery and Wild…. the movie

If what you are saying were true if you started with 100 wild fish you would end up with a run that was extinct in 24 years and functionally extinct much sooner than that.

Over a century of...
