I got a brand new 05 yamaha 8horse with my drift boat. the motor has around 15-20 hours on it now. I was out on merwin this past saturday. The motor was in gear and when I would throttle up to go it would sputter out. the only way to get any speed was to keep the choke all the way out. The gas is new. I can't think of why this would happen. I still have plenty of warranty si it is going in to the shop but any suggestions? I don't see how dirt would get into the carb or water for that fact. Made me mad when this happened. anyone else have this happen?

Sounds like debris in the carb. Either that or one heck of a air leak. Suggest taking it to the shop, if its debris it may cost you some bucks.

Yeah thats what I am afraid of. how does this happen? the motor is only used for trolling and hasn't even been used that much. Very frustrating.

If it's debris it has to come from the tank or possibly the rubber in the line is deteriorating. Once you know make sure you clean, flush or replace components as necessary so it doesn't happen again.
Open the carb up, clean out the bowl and main jet, put back in a couple dollars of seals, and she will run like new. Simple.
This happened to a friend of mines T8 and it had two problems, a cloged jet and a air leak in the main line.
After that it ran like a top. This was never a problem but after 5 years of running, it showed up, simple maintenace would of prevented this.
