Hey all, I have a little tidbit I wanted to take care of but just wanted to ask you guys, just to make sure. What would you do in order to take the decal off of my bayliner? It's an older model with the style of decal seen and with the registration numbers I wanted to finish them off so they don't look so 'ugly'

All I want to do is take out the dirty backgrounds to the decal and make them look more 'clean', although I'm pretty sure the yellow in the gelcoat will make the boat look a little unusual, that's where the cleaners come in!

If you want to remove the decals competly and start over: try the heat gun method first.......if you are leaving alot of residue/glue behind then go the professional route.......... This is what myself and im sure Brad GreenbuttSkunk Coho Designs uses: 3M makes a rubber wheel that fits into the chuck of your cordless or corded drill. you can obtain these at an autobody paint supply store... Pacific Coast Paint Co. 503-232-8535 they run about $10.00. They effectivly remove everything off the surface and leave your surface alone. All you have to do now is clean your boat with your favorite solvent to make sure your boat is spotless. Some metallic paint gel coats may be affected by the wheel so be aware and take care when using the wheel. :smash:

Also, back to the heatgun method........... Do NOT use a razor blade when removing decals from your boat. Sure you may have gotten lucky sometime but It only takes one slip and BAM, youve wreked some gel coat or you ve slipped and cut yourself. Use your fingernails to lift a corner and then peel. Also GOOF OFF works really well on stubborn glue residue.
