I have a 15 Alaskan SS, with Merc 25, and would like to be able to steer from a wheel mid ship. Anyone do this conversion and what was the aprox, cost? How does it work for you? Or is there a remote controll unit that I can use to operate from anywhere on the boat? This is the time of year I ponder such projects. Any thoughts?

Well at a cost of $700 I guess it is not cost effective. Kinda like adding a room onto my house. Any thoughts on the remote control steering & throttle? Does such a gadget exist? What if I was to find a boat wrecking yard and get the hardware for steering there? Any thoughts apreciated.

Panther makes a remote control steering system but their about 500 installed, the conversion from your existing tiller to remote is going to take remote attaching kits, throttle and shift control box and harnesses for the engine, a console and steering system for the boat, seems like maybe you might want to consider selling your existing boat and getting a boat show deal on the correct configuration

I converted a Lund 16 foot from tiller to steering. I found a boat salvage yard in Gresham that sells all the remotes and cables and console and wheel for under 250.00.
