Assuming it has breaks check the reservoir to see that its full and that the brakes function. If ok you can replace the shock inside the coupler or do nothing. A lot of them are that way.

Also check to make sure your ball is tight. I had a similar problem and went through everything but couldn't find the problem. Finally took it to a trailer shop and they found the ball had a little play in it. Wasn't noticeable, at rest, and wouldn't move unless you had the weight of the trailer moving it during stopping and starting. They replaced the lock washer and torked everything down and I haven't had a problem since.

The holes in the reciever and the hitch arent exactly matched to the pin. There will be a little slop.I think it is pretty normal.Ours has done it since new.
It probably sounds worst than it is.Just sounds bad because the boat is heavier.Makes a bit of a clunk.
But if your holes and pin are pretty close in size I dont think its anything to worry about.
My 2 cents

There is a reciever that actully has a poly urathane block where the pin goes through. The Poly urathane acts as a shock absorber for the stinger. If the noise drives you crazy you might look into this type of reciever.

Perhaps a sleeve/shim to fit over the lock pin? Perhaps a metal sleeve, sturdy hose, etc.

if the hole in the hitch itself is oblonged, i`d drill another hole in it, usualy there is plenty of room.

For all you clunkers, tighten up the nut on bottom of the latch on the coupler enough that you can barely latch it because of the tension, and put a dab of grease in the coupler. Your clunk will be gone.....

Check the receiver and make sure it matches tthe trailer ball size
