Carb rebuild ????

I have a 1989 200 merc. It takes off on plane just fine and gets upon step. But for higher speed it seems like it doesnt have the speed for a 200. The compression is ok. It idles fine and I had a tune up done a couple of months ago. The carbs have never been torn apart and cleaned since this motor came from the factory. Would it make a difference in speed if I had the carbs taken apart and tottaly rebuilt.

I would investigate wear on the impeller if its a jet drive. It doesn't take much to rob power when there is a little cavitation. Inspect shoe grates, and impeller for nicks. And the make sure the impeller is shimmed to the right tolorance.
