I have recently purchased Boat with a Sportjet 120, nice, very low hours. I have had it out on 3 outings, started good, couldn't asked for more. A real pleasure. Until past weekend. I'll go back to weekend before that. While waiting for trailer to come I took off to do a quick solo. As I took off and bow raised motor died,,,started right back up, took off no problem. When loading at trailer, it again shut down. But I thought it might have been me, so I thought no more of it. Then this weekend at the dock, it started right up, I finished loading passengers and then left dock. As soon as I accelerated, and the bow went up, it died again. This time it did not restart. Paddle back, reloaded and went home. There I removed plugs, they were still wet, with gas. Tap starter, and saw spark. I then removed filter on side of engine as owners manual suggests. I did find some jello like particles came out on rag as I removed it. Clean screen up, look like new. Check 20 amp fuse, it was good. Check all gas line connection, tighten a couple etc. Now I'm ready to return to water to see if it will start? Is there anything else?? Or should I head for shop now?? I'm very mechanical/not first rodeo. Will act on your suggestions. jdana29
Sounds like you have water in your gas...
But I'm just a fisherman.

Bad Stator?
I would bet it's water in the fuel or bad gas. Put some fuel conditioner in the tank every time you gas up.
I also have the SJ120 and have never had any problems in six seasons. But I'm thinking of adding a water seperator just in case.

I have fuel conditioner in it and have used it with every fill-up. Yet it did have jell like balls at the filter screen? I did squeeze the ball a few time while I had it disconnected and let it run in to a small pale,,,looked good. :help:
Sounds like a fuel system problem. You might try a bottle of fuel dryer before spending major $$, a couple of drops of water in the carbs can be major pain in the rump. The ethenol they add to gas in the fall makes maters worse. A 10% ethanol-gas blend can dissolve up to 40 times more water than straight gasoline :hoboy:. So any water in your tank will blend with the ethenol making your engine run rough until you get it run out.
Ask me how I found that little fact out

Had the same problem with my boat. Ended up to be water in the fuel tank.

Good suggestions so far. Check the obvious first.
What model yr is the engine?
I had several '99 & '00 120s with fuel restrictions after the filter & screen. The rubber fuel lines looked fine from the outside, but were comming apart internaly. The fuel flow was restricted at the brass tee fitting between carbs. Kevin
