View Full Version : Outboard Jet Pull to the Right!

I've got a 115 Yamaha on my Willie Predator. I am fairly new at running the pump and am noticing quite a pull from the motor when running on plane. The motor wants to turn the boat to the right, and I find myself pulling on it the whole time to keep us straight. Not bad, just annoying.

Any idea what might be causing it. The motor and pump sound great and appear to be mounted at the correct height (even with the bottom of the transom)

Thanks,
Dan(ger)

I am certainly no expert, but I solved the very same problem with my outboard jet (90 hp) by taking a pair of pliers and carefully moving the "Tab" in the exit port for the expelled water. You will see it on your jet if you look into the hole where the water shoots out. If it is canted to the left, for example, cant it to the right (slightly) and see if this helps. If it needs a bit more, don't hesitate.

If not, call Rick at Stevens Marine. He'll explain it better than I and the fix is simple!

Before you make the adjustmant on the jet itself - you might check for weight distribution in your boat. If the weight balance is off you'll feel it through the tiller handle. usually it takes a 200lb person for me to feel it with mine but it is noticeable.

Couldn't the problem also be in the way that the steering cable is attached to the hub?

Make sure you don't have rocks in the nozzle. Don't ask me how I know this. A nozzle that is plugged up on one side will make the motor push to one side.

Check for rocks and bend the tab at the nozzle.
