I ran into a fellow Flyfisherman on the Coast this weekend while checking the rivers for fish. This guy was gung ho Spy Rod fisherman. We exchanged conversation about the aspects of Flyfishing for Salmon and he gave me some fly patterns that he called the Comet. I have not been able to find a recipe. Are these spey flies or ?
He told me he had hired a Guide who's name I cannot remember but I had heard it before. The name starts with a
"Z". This guy fishes from a drift boat and teaches how to
fish the Bay with a system of shooting heads. It didn't sound appealing to me to spend $300.00 per day but it sounded like a very effective way to fish.
There are few fish in the streams right now. The Trask has not had a decent spurt. The only river that I could tell has fish in it is the Nestucca. But I don't think there are that many. The word is: There are lots of salmon in the Ocean waiting to come in but the rough bar conditions are keeping them offshore. Everything is late. When we get some rain the fishing is going to be Fast and furious.
November is going to be a great month to Fly fish the Coast streams this year.
