Got this from the Tacoma news paper, hope it helps....
Fly fishing: The action below the Tacoma Narrows Bridge was slow Friday. Action was better when there was cloud cover, as we had Thursday. Anglers were having luck fishing off the Purdy Spit.
purdy spit near the bridge -cutthroat- chambers bay @ the mouth near the train tressel,walk the beach to the point defiance. fort leiws solo pt by the under water reef near the discarge pipe. for some real action try @ night on the holoroid dock near chambers creek mouth -huge lights attract feeder fish :smash:(watch for night watchman he's fast) :blush: or use a boat. fox island dock, maybe thats gone by now its been about 20 years .Some times I miss the smell of the sound, but then the the scent of tacoma creeps in and reminds me of where I grew up :crazy:-happy fishing.
Hey uhmw;
My in-laws live in Gig Harbor; on the cliffs just norht of the Narrows Bridge. Have wanted to do a little 'splorin' on that side. Any other input for that side?

If you can get under the narrows on that side it would be worth a try- fly fishing might be tough. We always used a buzz bombs 3" long to cast far on the city side of the bridge, I have heard the gig harbor side was even better . one hour befor high and slak tide is best cause the water slows down(important). let it sink as deep as your pocket book will allow and pull then drop pull then drop. for fly fishing drive to purdy (about ten min past your in laws house) ask them where the purdy bridge is they will know. cross the bridge and park and fish the lenght of the spit on the open sound side tons of room. Fish from the bridge to the boat launch on a rising tide(important). bring waders and cast shrimp hering or squid patterns on a sinking line. You can catch silvers and sea run cuts mostly. normaly there will be a few fly fisherman there and I highly recomend asking them what they are doing, they catch fish. good luck,I always look for escapement when I go to my inlaws too.
