I've always washed my lines to keep them clean using dish soap, but have never used a dressing. I picked up a bottle of Glide dressing from Umqua feather merchants to try.
Anyone here use line dressings to improve line casting and longevity ?

I should do it more often than I do. Maybe once a season if their lucky.

Its pretty amazing how dirty your line gets even after only 1 day on the water. You might not be able to see it, but take a look at the cleaning pad after run your line through it a few times. Also, the dirt rubs off of the line onto the guides. I clean those, too. The dirt on the line and guides does cut down on casting distance. Also, the grit on the line rubbing against the guides, and the grit on the guides, tends to shorten the life of the line.

I only use dressing occasionally (maybe 2-3 times a year). I rinse my reels after most outings and do a full line cleaning with just warm water and a rag about every 2-3 outings. Not saying this is a great way to care for your lines.....its just what I happen to do.

Some lines take dressing better than others... Airflos clean up nice and easy, while Rios don't seem to show much difference after cleaning....
