I purchased a 128 qt marine cooler to mount on the swim deck of my 19ft sportject Stryker. I'm not sure the best way to mount. I've seen some bungee corded to the boat and I guess others have bolted theirs to the swim deck. I'd like to easily mount and dismount it for inside storage. And it needs to be fairly secure for running rivers. What works or doesn't work?
Thanks.

Here is the setup that came on my cooler when installed on my new NR Sportster. I am really happy with it. The cooler can be easily removed and the only thing that is left on the transom are some nice chrome brackets which do not interfer with anything. The small spring loaded pins work well.
Although it doesn't show well on the photo, there has been another latch put on the cooler to prevent it from opening while going down the highway. I understand that Igloo has but child safety latches on these big coolers that can come open in high wind. The addition latch eliminates that but still alows the lid to be opened enough for air should the unthinkable happen.

You can build you own mounting bracket pretty cheap. Couple feet of AL angle, ss bolts, ss top mounting hardware, and some pins. I did for about $35.

Waterdog I agree. It is a pretty basic bracket but works well and can be made easily. One thing I didn't add on my intial post was that there is a piece of flat aluminum on the inside roughly the same length and width as the outside angle iron which keeps the bolts from pulling through. Better then just washers.

Yup - I forgot about that part. It's been so long since I put a fish in the box I have forgotten what the inside looks like.

Yep, I did the same thing on the transom of my last boat (20' Intruder w/sportjet). I got some scrap 2"x2" aluminum angle for $5.00, a couple of stainless triangle-thingys that the bows of most boat tops attach to on the boat (I had to get the ones that were angled about 15-20degrees from the local boat shop to correspond to the slope of the reverse angle of the transom), and I used large stainless fender washers on the inside of the cooler rather than a single piece of flat aluminum, plus the same spring loaded pins. I hope my description is understandable! :jester:
It was a fun project that I was into like $20.00...pretty simple.

there is still a swim platform that this sets on right it is just how you are mounting it so you do not have straps.
