Got a chance to fish with Marty and Pete of River City Fly shop today on the coast for cutts.
Fished a lot of new water and hooked some fish to boot
There is a huge cutt in the spruce tree area of the "can" Looked about 18" and took a nip at my fly :bigshock: but didn't commit
One bit of advice....fish the riffles and seams

Would it be hijacking to inquire more about the difference between resident and sea-run cutts?

Having just moved from wyoming, I am used to only the native, orange-y, snake river and yellowstone cutts. They are slower takers and weaker fighters than their oregon cousins apparently. The few I caught on the wilson on tuesday were also more silver than I'm used to cutts being.

Would love to see pics of the differences.

If you would like me start a different thread on this subject I will.

residents stay in the river sea runs go out to the ocean and then return to spawn. just like rainbow trout if they stay in the river system they are trout if they leave and come back they are steelhead.

Here the information you are looking for

Coastal Cutthroat Trout (http://www.dfw.state.or.us/ODFWhtml/InfoCntrFish/PDFs/BKGCoastalCuts.pdf)

You'll need Adobe Reader to look at this I think

Stew recommended, and I picked up a copy of a book that I highly recommend. The book is "Fly-Fishing Coastal Cutthroat Trout" by Les Johnson. Tons of great information, photos, and tips. I particularly like the photos, etc. for dozens of flies. The book cost $30 and can be found at Fisherman's.
