Anyone know where to rent a spey set up? With my brother in law coming into town next week, he is wanting to give it a go. He could potentially use it back in the midwest rivers also and wants to try it out.
I have contacted River City, and unfortunately, they don't rent - which I understand. By the way - Heard it time and time again here, but still...Amazing to me that they even recommended a competitor who he thought might. Will be going back to them from now on!! Am going to start calling shops, but some of the ones I may have to call, I don't really want to (personal experiences). It would be for 2-3 days. Would consider some of the flyshops on the way, but they wouldn't be open early enough for me to pick up Friday.
Thoughts?

I have now called three places and none rent a spey rig. Even called a very well known shop that advertizes its specialty in spey rods. Doesn't suprise me too much as these set-ups are usually so expensive and a little tricky to cast. Heck, I am still comparing everything to how much something costs in terms of my spey rod. "Oh, that car is only 20 spey rods..." Still hear about that purchase from the wife. Alas, I only have one set up and I have let my brother in law use it - He picked it up pretty quick in the hour or so he was handling it.
Anyway, you can PM me with someone who is not a sponsor as it appears none of the sponsored links do this.

So I am still trying to find a place that rents spey set ups...
Anyone, Anyone, Bueller? Just saw this over the weekend...

Yeah, I even tried them. I called a shop in Maupin which does rent set ups, but they use those rods for their guided trips also, so there are no guarantees that they will have any in stock when I need one. They are going to call me if they have one available. The guided trips they have on Friday may have one or two folks who may be bringing their own, but I won't know until we get there and have to wait until they open at 8AM.
Thanks for the idea!

Trying the pity appoach now...
OK - I have tried everything I know and my BIL gets out here tomorrow - and I'm officially desparate.
Would any of you two handers in the Portland area be interested in making an extra $50 bucks to rent a set up to my BIL. He doesn't break stuff and will be very appreciative. (And I know just about every rod now has a lifetime guarantee just in case ) We will drive to pick up so you can even meet him and I. Would look to pick up tomorrow evening and have it back in your posession Saturday afternoon/evening (early). I have only found one place that rents - in Maupin - and wouldn't be open until 8 on Friday. Even with that, there is no guarantee they will have it those days. If so, that means to get it would be precious time off the water - and I say "*&#$## that!"
You can PM me if you want and I will send you contact info.
