Howdo!
Just found out I have one sweet, sweet day to fish on Sunday, and am goin' to the Crooked (assuming no disastrous reports here!)
Sooo....
What are your top ten trout flies for fishin' the Crooked in October (wet or dry?)
I thought this would be a good thread for the ol' archive, so that future generations of hatch matchers can glean some good info. (If you also want to add favorite techniques, this outta-towner would be most appreciative ;-)
(side question for moderator or big contributors: is it ok to repost later in the week asking for reports on the Crooked?)

Didn't fish it this time of year but size 16 orange scud and size 16 or 18 (cough, cough) Glo Bug (salmon egg with flame dot). The Glo Big was a surprise but out fished everything and everybody else.

Small, dark (16 and 18) caddis. Griffith's gnat. Keep a couple #8 october caddis - pupa and dry - handy.
Good luck!!

Its a little early for the Crooked yet; Ifishers generally don't start hitting it until the weather cools down a bit.

Hmmm, why is it that out of a group of 10+ Ifishflyfishers, no one has brought up the idea of doing it again. Certainly Mark's waders have thawed by now.

Thanks LNF!
So if you had a day in October and had the following requirements, where would you go?
*Beautiful river
*Good sized trout, but action more important than size.
*Limited Pressure
*No more than 3 hours from Portland

The  meant I was being a wiseguy. This is a perfect time of year for the Crooked. Greenbuttskunk, another guy and I got into them good about this time a couple years ago. 12-16+ inchers about every other cast for an hour and a half; triples were the norm. There were four or five different hatches going off at the same time and it was hard to figure out what they were keyed in on... then I tied on a size 16 or 18 ginger quill dry and :smash: 15 or so in an hour. That was some of the best dry fly fishing I have ever experienced... GBS was hooking them right behind another guy's leg.
Enjoy and head's up... the road alongside the river gets a lot of black ice.
Another option is the Metolius... glo bug fished directly below spawning kokes and... hold on. :bigshock:

Wow! Good instance of missing the non-verbal clues, huh? Sounds like we're on the right track.
Can't wait!!

My waders have thawed and are ready to be frozen again. I've been wondering when the annual trip was going to come together. I'm game. I went out and bought an extra warm sleeping bag.

Yuck, look at the weather! I was crying while wringing our my drenched undergarments in this photo.
Oh, and don't forget the spectacular savings in keeping things on ice...
