So last weekend wile up deer hunting I was looking around the skyline rd area and I drove up to Summit Lake. Have any of you been up there fly fishing it looks like a nice lake for brookies. It is off skyline rd about 4 miles past The Clackamas Lake turn off. I hope to get out there and try a little fishing next time I make it up there. Have any of you all fished it. It looks like a great lake for you tube and pontoon guys. rp

I've been up in the area a number of times. A few years back, it was planted with rainbows. The "hot" summer weather heated up the water and it seemed all the fish were killed. I personally think the lake is just too shallow.

As I said, that was a number of years ago, so I don't know if there are any fish in the lake now.

On the other hand, there are a number of small streams in the area that are full of native cutthroats.

Yes I love the little streams up there for the cutts but the lake looked like it had some life in it. Wile I was sitting eating my lunch watching the lake I did see a few dimples like fish feeding off the top so maybe some of the fish have came back. rp

I saw the title to this post, and thought it was Summit Lake in the Willamette District! How could there be another Summit Lake? I went to that lake, up past the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Willamette River, close to Diamond Peak back in 1986. I took my Dad's prize possession, his Toyota Corolla station wagon up a 4-wheel drive road to get there, which I only disclosed to him more than a decade after the fact. Gorgeous country. I stepped out of the vehicle with my flyrod in my hand. Five minutes later I was back in the car high-tailing it out of there with over a hundred mosquito bites. I'm sure the fishing would have been wonderful if I had the tolerance to be sucked dry of all bodily fluids by those evil insects.
