Salmon fishing seems to bring out the “worst” in some fishermen. Last week I had an adult (gear fisherman) show up on the river with three kids and crowd me out of a hole. Didn’t even ask, just crowded in!
However, on Wednesday I had a gear fisherman (gear tosser) actually ask if he could share a hole with me and Frankenfish. I was shocked speechless! Finally when I regained my powers of speech, I suggested he start fishing above us and work down the hole behind us. When I gutted the Coho I had tagged, I asked if he wanted the eggs and he had a plastic bag ready. I didn’t mind sharing with him since he was an ethical and considerate fisherman.
