I am looking at possibly purchasing a used boat with two 1999 200 optimax OB's and i have heard that there were some problems with the earily opti's. These motors only have 90 hours on them. What should I look out for? Are any of you running 1999 opti's and if so have they been good or have you had problems?
Any help would be greatful!

I have a 99 225. The only real issues I have had are.
1 Does not like the heat. Any day over 90 degrees and it runs really poorly.
2. Make sure you have a battery of at lease 1000 cranking amps or 750 CCA.
Or you will be having senors going off.

I was also told by a friend of mine(Merc Mechanic) that the 200 had problems. He wouldnt own 1.The 225 was fine.Thats just 1 mans opinion though.

Thanks for the replies, I have decided not to pursue the purchase of the boat with the opitmax’s. I did a test ride and was not happy with the way the boat handled. Maybe it was for the best anyway do to the reputation these motors have. I am now looking at something with a v-8 inboard, hopefully it will turn out ok.
