A friend of mine sent me the below discussion with God. With the recent hurricanes in the south as people we can get so focused on the “great” needs we tend to lose track of the “daily” things – both are important. Our culture generally concerns itself with the great for it gets the most attention and sells the most airtime. But as Christians we need balance between the “great” and “daily” for God’s attention to human need is not limited. Giving “a cup of cold water” is equally great in God’s eyes, but given little note by our culture since typically no one will ever know.

Christian: God, I want to do great things; great things to help the hurting especially with all the recent turmoil in the south to bring you glory and honor.

God: You do?

Christian: Absolutely! I want to share with people to reach them so they may know your saving power! I see so many hurting people I want to make a difference for You. To change the world; to make my life count. I dream of the day….

God (interrupts): That's great, Christian! In fact, I can use you today after church.

Christian: Super! How about a message I could preach to the lost, maybe if you would arrange things so I could get some airtime we could reach a bunch of people at once. How about I donate some money to a great cause, maybe I could get a fund raiser of some sort going to donate even more money. I could also organize a local relief project or … or … or…

God (interrupts again): Well that’s fine Christian, but it’s not exactly what I had in mind.

Christian: Um, O.K. after all I’m sure you have something great in mind. Oh, I couldn’t even imagine what is it God. What would you have me do to bring you glory?!

God: See that fellow sitting next to you?

Christian: Yes.

God: He needs a ride home.

Christian: What?

God: Yes, he needs a ride home. And while you're at it since I see you’re so excited which is wonderful, the older lady near you in the blue dress she is worried about getting a refrigerator moved. She lives alone. Why don't you drop by this afternoon she’s very concerned about it and….

Christian (pleading): But, God, what about all the hurting people. There are so many needs to be met for so many. What about the world God?!

God (smiling): Oh, Christian. The world?…It’s sitting right next to you.

Great post Rimrock!

I've been guilty of this myself. Sometimes I've felt like to please the Lord, I should try to help every unfortunate victim in the world, which is of course impossible.

I've offered my prayers (important), but felt I should do more.

But a stones throw away from all of us are those in need.

Helping someone change a tire, a donation of clothing, a piece of helpful advice to someone in trouble, are all things that please our Lord.

These are things, as Christians, that we do, but we can always do more of.

Thank's for the reminder of their importance! :flowered:
