“I am the LORD, and there is no other;
apart from me there is no God.
I will strengthen you,
though you have not acknowledged me,

so that from the rising of the sun
to the place of its setting
men may know there is none besides me.
I am the LORD, and there is no other.

I form the light and create darkness,
I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the LORD, do all these things.” (Isaiah 45:5-7)

I must admit a part of me is not looking forward to this weekend. During times of natural disasters or national crisis, the question will come or one similar, “Why does God allow such destruction and suffering?” As believers we need not focus our attention on defending God; God is God and He doesn’t need us to come to His aid even if we could do such a thing.

The question is a difficult one to answer. I would much rather focus on God’s grace and on His unsearchable love for us, but that’s not the whole of God is it. Certainly God’s promise to His children is He ultimately will work all things for good according to His purpose. That doesn’t mean all things that happen will be “good” so to speak.

It’s been difficult to watch all that’s happening around the Gulf Coast. Why doesn’t God intervene and help those who are still suffering? It is within His power, but this is the action He has chosen. Why? I don’t know.

“I am the LORD, and there is no other.” That ultimately is the answer; He’s God I’m not, His ways are unsearchable and unknowable to our limited human minds. As with all things and all times such as these it is right to turn to God in prayer.

one of the very reasons I started reading When God Doesn't Make Sense by James Dobson

Reading the book of Job helped me with a lot of these sort of questions.

Very well said. :applause:

Who are we to question God, who gave us life so that we could experience His love for us?

This is where "faith" factors in. :flowered:

We cannnot even conceive the genius, grace, and strength of God...he has a reason for everything no matter how terrible it may appear on the surface there is meaning within...this one is an eye-opener.

I have heard it said this way , the ? is not why them, the ? should be, why not us (me). I am with you Rimrock, the question always comes up ,,If GOD is such a loveing God why does He let things like this happen? (to good people) Well none of us are good, we all deserve judgement (damnation) and if it wasn't for his great mercy we all(all mankind) would be wiped off the face of the earth. I would not want to try and answer this question for a nonbeliver.

NKJV

1 Cor 2:14
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
NKJV
This is why , sort of like trying to explain Einestine to a small necked clam. But that's not to say that IF asked I certianly would try to answer their question.

Very sad indeed. Seeing those pictures in the paper and on the news is disturbing to say the least.
I have been praying for them.
