Savannah 6 and Gabe 9 are my neice and nephew who live in Prosser Washington. Ever since their Grandpa passed on (my Father) I try to visit as much as I can to take them fising Like grandpad had planned to. They both have been trout fishing and caught stockers and said it was fun. So This summer I promised them a trip where they would catch so many fish they would never be bored. Shad were running at McNary but I had something else planned. Bobber doggle'n the small mouth laden Yakima River.
The river was WAY low so, Infact so low I couldnt run my big motor. The Kicker was iffy so on the electric it was. With only one other boat on the river, I had one Kid stand on each side of the boat, free spooling a good ol Red-white bobber with a single split shot hook and worm set at 3' deep on a down stream float. This is the easyest way for kids to fish because the have a visual and the fish hook themselves.
10 seconds into it Savannah got her first fish and was it nice.. 3lb Yakima Smallie.. I forgot how good those nice sized fish fight, especially on such a small kids rod.

the Kids caught so many fish, we lost count. And that was in about 1.5 hours untill my minn kota went dead.
Sometimes its kinda nice to break away from the Salmon and Steelhead fishing!!
