Magic Eye Trebles Make Hook Changing Easy
By Stan Fagerstrom

“Ouch!”

I swiveled around in the bow seat of my bass boat to see what had happened to my fishing partner. “What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Aw,” he grunted, “it’s this bleeping surface bait. “I’ve been trying to change the size of its rear treble hook. I don’t have my split ring pliers along. Every time I try to slide this bigger hook onto the split ring I wind up sticking my fingers. I almost stuck one of the hook points in over the barb the last time around.”

“Wait a minute, Pete,” I said. “I got some new hooks here that will solve the problem for you. They’re brand new and I just got some myself. They take all the misery out of changing hooks on your hard baits. “You’ll also find you don’t need your split ring pliers to get the job done. What size do you want?”

The 2/0 hook I handed my fishing partner that morning was a brand new treble recently introduced by Gamakatsu. The hooks are called the Gamakatsu Magic Eye treble. The way these hooks are designed takes much of the misery out of changing hook sizes if and when you choose to do that.

Changing hooks on your favorite lures can be a pain in the fingers as well as other parts of your anatomy. The new Magic Eye Treble I'm holding here eliminates much of the hook changing misery.

When you have opportunity to examine one of these new hooks, pay close attention to the top part of the eye. You’ll find it has been flattened so you can easily slide it in between the wires of the split ring. Once you’ve got the top of the eye onto the split ring wire, just push it into place and slide the hook you’re replacing off in the process.

These new hooks are presently available in sizes 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0 and 5/0. If you’ve used Gamakatsu treble hooks before I don’t have to tell you hooks just don’t come any sharper. The new Magic Eyes are 2x strong in a round bend design.

The top of the Magic Eye Treble is specially designed. Its shape makes it much easier for you to slide the hook onto a split ring.

These new hooks are made in two finishes. You can get them in a corrosion resistant black or an attractive red color.

I was among the first to have opportunity to try Gamakatsu Hooks when they came on the scene years ago. As a matter of fact, I had opportunity to do some test fishing of these super hooks before they actually put on the market. If you’ve been around as long as I have, you’re aware that the new hooks Gamakatsu introduced were the best we’d ever seen.

These new Magic Eye trebles are just more of the same. If you’re one of the many serious bass anglers who changes hooks from time to time, you’ll want to lay in a supply.
Be assured you won’t have the same problems my pal Pete did that morning I mentioned in the beginning.
