Body of diver recovered from river
SWEET HOME — Emergency personnel on Thursday recovered the body of a man who had been scuba diving in the South Santiam River, just below Foster Dam.

The Sweet Home Police Department is investigating the accidental drowning of Kevin Lee Clubb, 28, of Albany.

Clubb was last seen, by fishermen, diving in the river Tuesday evening at Wiley Creek Park.

The search for Clubb began after a Sweet Home police officer located a vehicle containing Clubb's wallet and keys in the day use area of the park early Thursday morning.

Sweet Home police later contacted a family member and learned the man had not been seen since Tuesday afternoon and had not shown up for work. Clubb's body was found late in the afternoon submerged in approximately 12 feet of water, police said.

The search was conducted by the Sweet Home Police Department, the Linn County Sheriff's Office and its dive team, the Sweet Home Fire Department and a National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter.

The initial investigation reveals that Clubb was most likely trying to recover an anchor, became tangled in a rope and was unable to surface, according to the Sweet Home Police Department.

Friends of Clubb, who were at Wiley Creek Park on Thursday, said that he was a certified diver.

Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel in Sweet Home is handling arrangements.
