Wheres the best place to go catfishin around here?
For what it's worth, my first cast of the day at Brownlee Reservoir hooked this. Very healthy looking fish caught on a 3" brown grub on a lead headed jig. Other then that, it was bass the rest of the day.

Nice fish, looks like a great fish. Are any known to inhabit Hagg or places in and around the P-Town area? I miss my catfishin from down south, wanted to get into some if I can find a local spot.

Hagg does have catfish infact…
Hagg has the record brown bullhead cat that weighs in at 3.7 lbs.
I also know sauvies island has some good catfishing on it.
Hope this helps

Someone posted last week about catching cats in or near Lacamas. A large one was caught recently. Might search the posts really quick and see...

I've talked to guys who've done real well near the mouth of the John Day River ... using worms off the bank. Never been there myself, but these guys said they always get catfish and some nice sized ones.
Others out there might be able to fill in details.

I LOVE catfishing! Channel cat fishing to be exact.
my dad and I used to fish the snake back waters w/ live bait(illegal now) and slam 10-30 lb cats! River fishing for them is the best. I will watch this thread with interest.
Thanks

Sandz,
Some number of years ago I remember seeing or reading something on catfishing right off the seawall in Portland. That would be the Willey I'm talking about. With that in mind I would think you could catch catfish anywhere in the river, with the slack water current breaks being better.
Below the falls I suspect you'd be harrased more by the shaker sturgeon than the cats, but hey do you really care?? I certainly would mind the prehistoric harrasment!
I can say this, there is a lot of bank fishing off the Gilbert River boat launch dock on the far end of Sauvies Island. This would put you fishing the Willemette Channel.
I also see folks bank fishing on S.Island right across from Browns Landing just before you go through the westside ODFW gate.
I've never seen too many people fishing above the falls, but I don't see why not. I'm sure there are catfish above as well. The problem w/ fishing the willey is I wouldn't eat anything out of that water!
I would be fishing for fun only.
But with all this said, it won't be near the fishing you'd expect w/ respect to your family's catfish ponds back home.

Last night I took my little brother to sucker creek in lake oswego so he could catch some sunfish. we ended up catching about 10 bullheads or so. I also saw a cat that was around 5lbs eat a live bluegill, it was crazy!!! :bigshock:

For what its worth the 'Fishing in Oregon' book says the Tanner Creek arm of Hagg is supposed to be especially good for catfish. I haven't tested the advice.
