Late last night my girl friend said "okay you can go fishing Saturday morning! YES! So I loaded my boat and gear and grabbed 2 hours of sleep. I got to HAGG lake about 5:14am and the gate was open YES! I got the boat in the water and set before first light. As I was sliding the boat into the water I saw a fish move next to the dock. So after parking my truck I sat in my boat and started casting till it was light enough to take my boat out. Wham 3 lbs smally on the first cast and a 2 pounder on the second cast. Now it was light enough to leave. I finished fishing the dock and boat house and ended up with a 2 pounder and some smaller bass. I then left and started fishing main lake points. Lots of small bass but that did not stop me till I ran in to about 100 perch. Okay that was kinda fun but I would rather fish for bass so I started casting to deeper water on the side of a point and got a NICE hit. she was in 35 feet of water and I really liked it that way. I could fight this big sow bass with nothing but water between her and I. After playing tug-0-war for about 5 minutes I then netted her. I got the scales out and some other boats asked what was the weight. 6 pounds 4 oz. My biggest Small mouth bass ever! so then I got some one to snap this photo. She was a nice fat fish! I placed her back in the water and called it a day, Every one with a boat and a tube was out going around in circles and I needed to head back home.
the bass fell to a wacky 3 inch senko with just a bit of weight added to get the bait down. I really had a nice day!
This fish will last in the ol gray matter for some time!

Nice Fish Roger!!
I went to Hagg last week but the wind picked up and I had a hard time fishing it, maybe next time I'll use 3in senko's at a depth of 35ft  . I'm too stubborn, I know soft plastic is the way to go but I keep wanting to catch them with deep diving cranks every time I go to Hagg.
So where exactly was the spot you caught this big bass?

=) Yeah that seems like it might work lol. I will do some pitching around the heavy cover though theres lots of heavy cover straight over deeper water around 10-12 ft. Theres also a few islands with heavy cover that i'll try pitching into the shade. Thanks for the help.

Awesome fish, Roger! That lake sure holds some nice fish for those that take the time and effort to figure them out!
A 6-lb smallie in the NW is just as good as a mid-teens FL-strain largie!

Good catch. Roger, you must have been off shore quite a distance from the side of that point. I have fished it a thousand times and know that the water is fairly shallow some distance out. Except of course directly off the point deeper water is closer to shore. But you said you got it off the side of the point and in 35 feet of water. Your little red dot is way to close to shore for that depth.
By the way, keep fishing Hagg. My largest LM came from there at 7.2 lbs.

Heeey, there's no 35 feet deep at that point! It's OK, Roger, I would actually applaud you if you would keep that GREAT fish's (and others in Hagg)location a secret. I would love for every I-fisher to catch one, but telling too much means nobody catches them anymore. Besides, isn't it rewarding to get one on your own?? Nice job on a BEAUTIFUL smallie. I know you don't fish out there much- you did in a short while what has taken many of us years to do. I wonder if you're fish was suspended, as they often are this time of year in and around deep water. LM's are on in a big way, there, right now.
Congratulations, Dave

Very impressive...I've always been told there where big ones in Hagg...now I suppose I don't have any more excuses. And thanks for sharing where you caught it...I probably don't quite have the skill to hook one yet but it gives me a little boost knowing where I might get lucky.
And Dave...can't we all be friends and share? If you want to flame people go to craigslist.

I think that goes for most lakes. You just never know. That's what makes fishing for bass fun! Roger, thanks for sharing the info. I'll look out for suspended bass next time I go to Hagg.

I'm with you striper. That pond is a waste of time!!!! I'm not kidding, ask Dave, I HATE Hogg Pond...AND I have a 6 LB 4 oz Smallie out of that ditch....DURING A CLUB TOURNAMENT!!!!!
BUT, Dave does have a point, there is something to be said about finding the fish on your own. I'm not a big fan of giving away spots.....secret or not. Sharing info is GREAT and, to me, one of the really good things about ifish, but using the internet to broadcast photographs of a fishing spot to millions of people is going a bit to far.... Call me old school but.... If you don't go out there and pay your dues and EARN some fish (or birds or game or whatever), They don't mean as much. At least to me.
BTW GREAT Bass Roger!!! :applause: :bigshock: :yay:

Thanks for the kind words every one :bowdown:
After reviewing my map I did not mark the spot exactly . The Spot I got the bass was out a bit farther and about 100 or 200 feet north of there. I have fished for bass for many years and one thing I have found is you can find spots that consistently produce quality fish but not to often will you know where the monster fish will hit. I did get a 6 pounder off the dock that I got my 9 pounder off of. BUT I fished that dock 50 times and did not get a bass over 4 pounds (but I get lots of 2 & 3 pounders off it). It's a good dock but the more important thing is putting it your time. I have no problem with giving exact locations that I have landed monster bass :smash: :nerd: . But I give better information out and that is where can you get bass nearly every time you go bass Ifishing. When you Ifish places that are productive they also produce monster bass from time to time. So if you go fishing (like silver lake :hearton:) and you fish 7 spots that ALL have bass on them, your odds go way up on catching a BIG bass. It CAN take years to locate that many places on a lake but when you have them dialed in you will catch allot of bass with some nice kicker bass tossed in. How many of you have got a 7 pounder off of the same spot you got monster bass from before... not many I'm sure. Lightning strikes from time to time but I have had better luck catching two big bass off of one spot with in a cast or two rather than working a spot the puts out big bass all the time or several big bass of one spot of the years.
As for the depth of the water in the area that I got the sweet small mouth... I did not have a fish finder on the boat so it was just a guess. When I tell you the location I have got some big bass, it IS THE place that I got it. You will not often see me posting my most productive locations hear on Ifish or any web site (but I sill do from time to time). But I send PMs all the time telling people the exact location that bass CAN be caught nearly every day. I need to save them for people that ask and not let them get pounded. Also its not just the spots I fish I that show people like SANDZ How to fish the spot for the BEST results. ya I do brag a bit from time to time but I am also hear to help everyone catch more bass! I think it was badwood that I told about this HOT log on the coast, and he got some nice ones there. I also told him exactly how I fished it the get my bass. This is the second time I have fished Hagg for bass from a boat. So catching a bass this big was (I will say it ) luck. The part that was not luck was the lure selection, presentation and my bass knowledge of knowing some starting places for this time of year and the ability to get the bass in the boat. I did take a net with me and most times I do not. I also did some fact finding on the internet :nerd:, I found out the bigger bass would be a bit deeper . So hard work does go in to consistency in good bass success :alert:. I can help shorten that time by doing the leg work and others have helped me here on IFISH (thanks everyone :flowered:). I ALWAYS  pass on the information of the from the catch. Location, lure, depth and time of day and any other important factor that would help others. I also could have been baiting the hole with out thinking about it too. I had just caught about 100 perch and tossed them on the far side of the boat. The bass may have been munching on a couple before I got back to bass fishing. The bass had a big GUT so a trout colored lure is a great idea ! As for what a small mouth is worth in large mouth pounds , I would say a 6pound 4oz :smash: smally is equal to about a 8 pound large mouth in how hard they are to come by. God I love this sport!!!!! You meet some of the greatest people in this sport !

yes that's what makes IFISH so GREAT  is the information flow. I see IFishers  post fishing location all the time. Plus the "Ifish in :yay:" coming up, this is going to be great to see every one involved and talk about bass fishing. It's great to get some non-boaters out on the river with some great fishermen. Not very often can you get such great information on what the bass are doing and where the bass are on any lake or river.
Plus the west side lunch was cool !

Nice fish- how many inches was that? I caught a pig smallie on the Columbia this summer during a walleye tourney that was 24 inches, but did not weigh her before release. What a fighter! I was guessing 6 to 7 pounds, but was curious the weight vs. inches.

Nice job Roger!
Don't let'em give you too much of a bad time over sharing info. That's one thing I admire about you... your willingness to share info. You've shared just about every place you've fished and I don't think half of us could go back to any of your spots and catch a fraction as many as you.
It's not so much where you fish as "how" you fish it.
I just got back from a week on Tahkenitch w/ the family only to jump on here and see pics of 5lb Tahkenitch pigs. I had a hard time scrounging up fish but finally managed a 2.5lb bucket that I thought would go 4lbs just looking at it. Wrong.
Lots of respect here Roger. Great job.
PM me w/ your home # and I'll buy ya lunch tommorrow and give that bottle of "Spike It" I borrowed back. Give me a chance to pick your brain on my recent largemouth experiances.

One thing that has been going on in bass fishing in the last 20 years is an explosion of information of how to catch more bass. You can get books, videos, magazines, TV. shows, online information and you can even go to two day seminars given by the BIG pros.
Bass fishing is more an aspect of skill than most people think. Knowing what fish do at different times of the day, time of the year and even how weather effects bass. Casting ability, having the right equipment. Find the lures that are the most productive FOR YOU! If bass fishing was easy every one would be catching big fish all the time. Yes all the information out there helps shorten the learning curve but the best way to learn to be more productive (after you have done your book work) is get to spend as much time as you can on the water. I am a good fishermen (not great) but I have put in A LOT OF TIME in over a 15 year time frame. I fished THOUSANDS OF TIMES. For ten years I averaged 3 to 4 days a week on the water. Even if I tell people about how to get more bass they still have to poses enough skills and luck to get big fish from the spots I told them about. The biggest impact I have had on the area is lure selection. Right now the hottest lure going (in my estimation) is the 3 inch senko. when I started fishing them not many others even knew about them. Now tons of people are fishing them. And they are catching fish. BUT you still need to spend time on the water to learn to fish them right. As for helping people catch bass. EVERY ONE READS magazines and watches TV shows and what are they doing is learning how to catch fish. That’s a good thing. So a pro foot ball player should not be couched to be come the best he can be? Every one would like to catch more bass. If you look at what you enjoy most in bass fishing some of the top things that may come to mind is: Enjoying nature, enjoy using you skills like flipping, pitching skipping and casting. It feels good to cast to a small pocket with a jig. The pro bass fishermen did not get there on there own. they all had help. HELP IS NOT A BAD THING! I guided hundreds of people and how many of them ever got a 8 pounder the rest of there life, NOT VERY MANY IF ANY!!! So every one go out to the spot I got that big small mouth bass and fish it, NONE of you will get a 6 pound bass off that spots for years. But take the information and fish around the lake using it and you will get a 6 pounder (if you put in your time and you have SOME luck). Knowing the spot is not as important as knowing the fish! You see me talking about first light all the time too. It’s a big key to catching more bass. All are just pieces in the jigsaw puzzle. You may have some of the pieces but one of the biggest pieces is SKILL and some luck.
Thanks Roger
