Spent yesterday afternoon and most of last night fishing the John Day above Priest Hole, Cot so many dinks that I thot about harnessing 50 or so to my kayak, dangling an Albino (pearl w/ a hint of blue) Super Fluke in front of them and see if they'd pull me up the river.
After the moon rose, I worked the rock gardens with buzzbaits and Jitterbugs; some of the hits were vicious! Didn't catch anything over 19", or 17" for that matter. The biggest was right at sixteen inches. The total was 17 twelve inches or longer.
Around 7:30 at one end of a 20 acre alfalfa patch, I counted 49 does and fawns; watched a set of twins gambol about like kid goats. At the other end were 20 or so including five bucks; all but one were forked-horns. That one was a 4/3 that would have easily T'd 24/20; nice rack.

Nice report! I have never buzzed for smallies, but have often thought about it. Do you use a full size buzzbait, or a smaller size one. Also, does it work well on Columbia, Willamette? Just curious. I have caught a lot of largemouth on buzzers, but never tried it for smallies. Do you use a standard buzz or inline buzz?

A smallie is a smallie is a smallie. Any technique that works somewhere otta work around here. Hell, I've even cot 'em on the Bill Dance "Dancin' Eel" arguably the worst lure of all time. Now that I think about it, THIS (http://www.hover-lure.com/images/dragon.jpg) is the most inane lure ever!
I've used larger BBs but I like an 1/8 ounce size in white or black with counter-rotating props; easier to keep on top at a slower speed. Another option is to use a paddle-tail worm and retrieve it fast enuf so that the tail spanks the surface. Miss a strike? Stop and let it drop; the bass will often hit it then.
