Here's a satellite photo of the launch

Get the River Curiser maps at Sportsman Warehouse or GI joes. The whole set is only $39 and shows depths, hazards and covers the Columia, Willamette and Snake.

Your best bet to learn the rivers is to get yourself a copy of the river atlas. You can get a copy at GI Joes, Fisherman's or Captain's Nautical Supply.
It shows all the channel markers and most (90%) of the hazards on the river at high /mid river levels. This time of the year, if you are going to navigate the river, stay in the MIDDLE and you should not have any issues running the river. Remember Red to the right as you go up river, Red to the left as you head out to sea. Your 2 big hazards are the reef at Willamette Park and upstream from the Shellwood Bridge there is another reef that goes to the middle of the river. Stay outside the red cans on both areas and you should be OK. If you are coming in from the Columbia, just be careful of the barge traffic and big rollers from the river cruisers and barges.

If you want to fish the willy why launch at 42nd street??
Cathedral park would put you right on the willamette without having to run 10 miles abd burn a bunch of gas.
The Columbia out by 42nd can be great too but for fishing the wilamette there are better options.
I agree with thoes who posted above, get the river cruising atlas...

Don't forget to be wary around all of the 'splashers'! They are out in full force. Between the wake-boats and river lice, it can be a bit tricky at times.

1. Fish the correct tide
2. Fish areas with fast/slow water breaks
3. Fish senkos on bottom
number three is admittedly biased

Yea, What Rob said. Forget 42nd. Catherdral Park.... is that the one under the St.John bridge?? That's the one I use to fish the lower Willey.
As far as running the Columbia.... stay in the channel and between the red/green cans and you be just fine. Anything outside of that and you'd be wise to have a river map.

Just a head's up here: There's a BASS tourney launching out of Scappoose on Saturday... there will be boats all over the place, including all of the hotspots on the Willamette.
I'm not fishing this tourney, but I typically get out of the way of the tourney guys out of courtesy to them. That's not a requirement, but I figure a little politeness goes a long way and will come back around again. There should be little pressure on the river Friday though.
Have fun.

When's the tournament and the weigh in? I'd like to see what they catch out of Scappoose. I've tried that area a couple of times without much luck. It would be inspiring to see how those in the know do.

Thanks for all the info guys.. My 5 year old son and I spent about 4 1/2 cruising up and down the willy trying to match the good lookin spots from the maps that i had to the actual water we fished for a total of about 30-45 mins. He did manage to pickup a dink maybe 9-10 inches on a yum dinger wm/red flake maybe 60 yards from the ramp in 15 feet of water Well we hope to do better in the fishin
PS>>> I got skunded for the first time in 8 trips on the water
