Fellow IFISHER's -

Been a while since I posted last.......mostly because its been so hot. Anyways.....

Busted out to The Hagg the other day - fished from 0600 to 9pm under the heat of the sun and had an AWFUL time with this new MAXIMA FLUOROCARBON fishing line. Here is the dirt:

Bought some 8LB Maxima FC and some 6LB Maxima Perfexion monofilament line at Joes. The legend on my reel states it will spool 8LB, thus - thought I'd give it a try cause I've had some big fish snap my 4LB in the past.

No sooner than my first three cranks to fill the bail with the 8LB when the line began to twist. This has NEVER happened to me before, but patience took over and I was able to back out and respool.

The 8LB lasted about 15 casts before it was impossible to manage....had a mind of its own as it twisted and snarled......even though I used my hand to ensure it wasn't loose when reeling in.

Stripped that crap off.

Next - bailed up with the Maxima 6LB, and though it didn't twist going on, it later caused the same problems. Most of the time I opted for my rods spooled with 4LB Trilene but continued to use the 6LB line until nightfall.

By the end of the day I was casting my Senko and the bait would stop in midair.......NO MORE LINE! Yes....I had that many rats nests.

One of you IFISHER's happened by at about 0700 (sorry - forgot your IFISH handle) and suggested putting a large weight on the line, chucking it out, and reeling in to stretch out the line. I should have taken his advice.........

Any suggestions from my fish'n brothers out there? Hell I'm sticking with 4LB Trilene until I learn of something that will allow me to FISH rather than unspindle line.

As to the Catch'n at Hagg - like I said in my last post - TOO MANY DINKS IN HAGG! Thumbed at least 20 of them. The people I brought fish'n had enough by 2pm and left....I just HAD to stay and it paid off when I nailed a 2-1/2LB Largemouth on a 4" senko -

Heading back this afternoon with MY NEW FLOAT TUBE! Anyone heading out there - look for me at Scoggins arm. I'm always wearing a brown aussie hat - just yell "IFISH"!!

Thanks in advance for any advise!

When your line is twisted up cut everything off your line and let it out behind the boat , don't place a sinker on the end of your line . Troll for about a minute and you should be able to start fishing again without any trouble . I have been using P-line Flurocarbon line . It is made by Sea guard . The Japanese have been makin Flurocarbon lines for a lot longer than the American co . I have never had the problems like you had , but have had it twist up some . One point to remember about filling your spinning reels with Flurocarbon line , allway under fill your spool . You want about a 1/4" of your spool to be empty . If you fill your spool the line will shoot off and you will have a backlash untill you get a gap on your spool . I don't know why it does this , but it will be a problem . I allways overfill my spinning reels unless i am fishing with florocarbon . Good luck and i hope that these suggestions will help .
Other that flourocabon i use Stren . I had some problems with Sren Frurocarbon . The problem was that i was filling my spinning reels to full and it would expload off the spool into a huge backlash . It really wasn't the fault of the line . The next time i need Flurocarbon i will try Stren again . It took me a long time to figure out that it wasn't the lines fault , it was my fault for filling the spools to full . I have talked to many knowledgeable fishermen and they all had the same problem that i did .

I hate that maxima line also. I had the exact same problems when I attempted to use it. I now fish the P line and really like it. Another line I'm fond of is Trilene extra smooth cast. I spool it on my kids rods and all my ultra lights.

Stren "MagnaThin". Great for spinning reels!

Maxima is not a good line on spinning reels right out of the package, but if you stretch it out before you get on the water, it works awesome! It is extremely strong and abrasion resistant, two things I really like when I'm bass fishing. But even better than Maxima, is Yo-Zuri hybrid. It is stronger and more abrasion resistant than Maxima, and it's not nearly as stiff, works great on spinning reels! :smash: The 8 pound Yo-Zuri breaks at about 16 pounds!

For spinning you should look for limp line. Yes stretching line is helpfull. If you see coils coming off your spool you should try to stretch your line. also line magic works well. When fishing light lures like the 3" senko. you need light line and limp line for the lure to fall at it's best. THIN line is very important too (thats why MagnaThin works so good). Once you pick a good line do not change all the time! you will learn the breaking point of that line before long and you will know how much power you can put on a big bass! This is very big! It also helps when you are hung up you know you need to go over and get the lure before you end up breaking it off! every one like differnt line, so find one you like and stick (a pig with it) with it!

FM,
I hear you! Man I tried flouro and had the same thing happen. Never tried Shalom's trick of pulling it behind the boat. Now that I know it, I might give it another try. Instead, I ripped it all off and went back to my braid.

I too tried fairly heavy flouro. Perhaps it's just too heavy of pounddage for a spinning reel. Shalom's other point about only under filling it, is dead one! I filled mine right to the top. as I do my braid. Big mistake!

IF money is not an issue...this line is great for dropshotting and all other light line tactics!!

Shalom's trick will work on the river as well; just use the current. Or use braid and you shouldn't have that problem.
