Is there any river fishing well? I am starting to realy freak out.

I spent last weekend on the North Umpqua and didn't hear of anyone catching a fish all weekend. The clack has been dead. I have not even seen any good reports from the mouth of the D.

Does anyone have any idea as to why the local runs are so low?

Like the winter run this year, fish numbers are down, at least on the westside. I have caught and I know of other fly fishermen that have caught summer run fish on the westside (including the North Umpqua). But not in the numbers from last year.

However, the fish counts at Bonneville are higher than last year. During the period 15 - 31 July, the steelhead count was 43,630 in 2004 and is 64,541 this year.

Dave, I wish I could give you a report, but I haven't fished for anything for 6 weeks (golf tournaments every week). I am just waiting for the silvers, but those numbers don't look good either. I can't stand the competition for the Deschutes runs so I will probably skip that. After the first fall rains the local rivers will produce steelhead (I hope). I have already been thinking a lot about the winter runs. Of course, there is Herman Creek.

Numbers of fish on the North Umpqua are very good and are above the 10 year average. Last week i found fishing to be average. 6 days i moved 6 fish to a fly landing three.

warm water temps were the only thing keeping the fishing from being very good.. go back when (if) we get some cooling
