What a great time it was  Mike Hoffman is a great guy and if any of you want to "make the jump to lightspeed" in flyfishing with a beautiful cane rod then Mike is your guy.
Come and meet Mike...and me too  tomorrow at our Washington County Fly fishers meeting

Nice work, Stew. It has been fun to "watch". I assume the last photo shows a properly "balanced" rod and reel, meaning that the reel cost as much as the rod.

How many actual working hours do you think you spent on the rod?

Wow that's hard to figure. I spent a lot of hours on it but like I said before it was mostly the prep work like filing and straightening node, flaming. Mike did the high tech stuff because he wanted my rod to be indicative of the fine craftsmanship he does.
I was pleased to have had a hand in crafting this rod but all the credit goes to Mike :applause:

Richard,
To answer your question I would estimate actual working hours are about 50 hours.... Then there is the drying time for the finish and the adhesives.
I have been able to get a rod ready to wrap quides in a little less than 30 hours.

Hope that answers your question.
