Summer of My Discontent

Wow, its been rough summer fishing for me so far on the fly.

No springers
No keepable summer steelhead (not that I usually keep them, but I haven't had that option)
No sea-run cutts

I've put in a lot of time this year with both gear and flies, but for some reason, the fly thing just is killing me, and that's my favorite way of fishing. While I have had success with gear and success on the fly for some of random species such as smallmouth, pikeminnow, and carp, I'm missing out on the good stuff.

Help?

You're just too good a fisher, and have too high expectations. I, on the other hand, am always pleasantly surprised if a fish actually strikes, so I'm not too disappointed when they don't. But the ones that don't strike are big.

I'm with TC, I am so happy when a fish does decide to strike my fly, that I am not too disappointed when they ignore me.

Things will turn around, I guess maybe you just might have to get out and fish more!!!! :grin:

Has truly been the Summer of my discontent as well, but the opposite reason. S/W project I'm working on is taking over my life, too little time to fish :nerd:. Couple trips to coastal rivers that netted a few nice cutts and one springer trip that came up empty handed. This fishing addiction is tough sometimes :laugh:. To misquote WC Fields "work is the curse of the fishing man"

Iv'e had this problem ( if thats what you want to call it).


Take a kid fishing. Don't even think about catching a fish yourself. Take them to a spot you have caught fish. If it takes more than one trip so be it.


If this does'nt work--- I'll send you soap!! :laugh:
