Two trips ago my Tohatsu 3.5HP motor kicked into neutral while running and it took several tries of switching the "forward-neutral" lever back and forth to have it shift back into gear. I used it since and now when I shift it from neutral to Forward nothing happens. I turned it off-on and tried every combo. No dice. I didn't hit anything with the prop. It had just worked fine ten minutes before. Thanks for any help!!!

Sounds like something wrong with the shift dog in the lower unit. Maybe wore out.

There should be a coupling of some sort that ties the rod coming down from the shift lever to one that connects down into the lower unit. I would check to make sure it is secure, genertally it is some sort of clamp that connects the two smooth steel rods together. They are made this way so that you can remove the lower unit, and to adjust the throw of the shift lever to match that of the shift mechanism in the lower unit.
If not that, then I have no clue.
Good luck
