I'm installing a wash down pump and I am curious why do you not use a gasket on the thru-Hull fitting?

I am just getting ready to do the same. Found this site with some good information.
Have fun putting a "hole" in the boat!!

Before you drill, have you considered if it's feasible to simply run the intake hose over the transom?
Not quite as clean an installation, but you avoid a lot potential headaches.
Drill the hole, hanging it over the side is not really a good install.
Gaskets will fail, seat the thru hull fitting with 5200.

3M 5200 sealer. Designed for sealing below the water line. Buy the quick set formula. The regular set stuff doesn't set up for ten days. Also I buy the tubes (like toothpaste) rather than the caulking gun cartridges, cause onse you open them, the stuff sets up in the cartridge, in a matter of a few days. Great stuff,,,,,,,,,,,,I buy mine at Englund's
No such thing as a "stupid question".
5200 and 4200 are high-performance polyurethane adhesive/sealants
The quick cure is the preferred product. Use 4200 if you plan on removing the parts sometime in the future and 4000 above the waterline.
NEVER USE SILICONE SEALERS (RTV) ON A BOAT, ESPECIALLY BELOW THE WATER LINE.
