Has anyone applied shark hide to their boat?
I would like a few hints before trying it myself :dancingman
The boat will be a new 20' TJ Luxor and I like to coat it
before it hits the water.

I put Sharkhide on my North River after I polished it. It looks great but not quite as much shine after you put on the S/H. I put it on because I will put the boat in the salt sometimes and it would discolor the aluminum. I put it on as as they tell you to on the can...I am going to try another coat using a mini foam roller  I am hoping to get a smoother finish. Good luck.

The stuff flash's off in seconds,so getting a smooth finsh applying with a rag as they recommend is impossible,I thought of getting the shark hide cold and spraying on a cold day to see if that slowed the flash time to the point that it layed flat,I put it just on my transom a year ago and still have no water marks, but you can see the swipe marks from the rag.

We just did snits with a sponge and it turned out pretty good, better than mine did with rags. Make sure you do it in the shade or on a cool day as any light from the sun will dry it out to quickly. I think spraying would be the best but it only took us about ten minutes per coat with the green and yellow sponges. Good Luck.

I put it on the boat and will try to remember to post some pics when I get back from this weekend.
I have not been using boat bumpers and I have big areas on the side of the boat where it is all rubbed off from the few minutes at the dock. I only put it on 5 months ago. Boat looks terrible.
Doesnt bother me :noway: but it looks terrible.
Wish I would have done the inside of the cabin though.

I put it on my new NR Seahawk which I've had about a month. I think it really keeps the stains off.... But, I also think it will rub off and leave big ugly gaps. Much more important to use bumpers always. I moored it over at Sekiu for five days and no problems but I used bumpers all the time.
I've experienced sharkhide abrading (abbrading?), but it seems like the exposed metal doesn't discolor as easily as it would if it had never been treated. Also, with a little rag and a dip into the can, the abrasions can easily be repaired.

I did it on mine a year ago and can easily see where the cooler wore it off from resting on the swin deck. I'm glad the rest of my boat doesn't look that way. I'll be retreating the swimdeck very soon.
