The Yamaha T8 is a popular kicker on this forum  Anyone care to advise on the Honda 9.9hp 4 stroke kicker as a good alternative or better

Don't know about better but my Honda seems to perform well. Even at high altitudes.

Same here, I haven't tested both out before but I do have the 9.9 and it seems to do a great job!

Hey, there's no 'thumbs up' icon...oh well, honda's double thumbs up! :applause:

I've got a 2001 9.9 honda and it does get the job done. I think my 8hp 2 stroke merc runs better and will idle down better tho'. Otherwise it aways starts and doesnt burn much fuel.

Not sure what size of boat your have or are getting but you might want to get the high thrust prop for the 9.9 if you go that way. It's a 4 bladed prop and pushes much better IMO. I know there are a couple of us around here that are running it on 22' jet boats. I also run an XL shaft on mine.

The biggest benefit of the T8 is the "Hight Thrust" component, that generates more thrust at lower RPM's. You won't have that with the Honda.

I had a Honda 4-stroke kicker for a while. I really liked it, but I traded it for a motor with a longer shaft. It was quiet, economical, reliable, easy-starting, etc. No complaints at all. It was a 2001 "Classic" (square-top) model.

If you can find a suitable used Classic, I suggest you buy it. They are lighter weight than any other 4-stroke on the market. I did hear a rumor that the Classics were going to be back in NEW production, because so many people have been asking for these lighter weight models.
