I like to use perfection loops when attaching leader material to my flyline because it's quick and easy to change out etc. I do think that the performance of the "good old nail knot" is far superior regarding drag. Especially while throwing dry flies. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I agree. I have used both and even though it is harder to tie, I do prefer the Nail Knot for casting and drag on the water.

I have heard (although I have no personal experience) that sometimes trout can be very skittish in low clear water and that a loop-to-loop connection will spook them. In those cases, tying the leader directly to the fly line with a nail knot would be the preferred method.

I have had no negative problems with using a loop-to-loop connection when swinging flies.

I learn this from an ol' fly fishing buddy. Insert bobbin needle into center end of fly line approx 1/4". It takes a little effort. Using a sharp blade or scissors, cut butt end of tapered leader at an angle for insertion. Apply one drop of zap a gap(pink bottle/thin stuff) into end of hollowed out fly line. Insert butt of tapered leader into line and let it dry. If you did it correctly, you will have a solid fusion of leader to fly line. This method really keeps everything neat and unobtrusive when reeling in fly line & leader through the guides. Word to yer muther.
