I was considering a purchase of one of these motors. I have a 21ft trophy. Any comments would be appreciated.

its like the Energizer bunny:

it just keeps going,
and going,
and going,
and going,
and going,
and going,
and going,
and going,
...

you won't regret it.

Outstanding engine. Mine is two years old and looks and runs like new (though ours is the standard model, not the high thrust). Larry

The only thing I would change on mine is getting the hydraulic lift. Great motor.

Me too. I love mine otherwise. Get the elect start also.

I have a 21' North River and the Yammy pushes it like a dream. The electric start and power tilt are the only way to go. I have it serviced once a year and it runs and runs and runs. Great motor!!

Sure glad I got one coming on my boat next week - I've heard nothing but good things about these motors.

My buddy has an older 15 hp longshaft on his 22' Trophy. I had to borrow it while my T8 mount was being replaced. ANyway, his pushed my 22' North River about 5.6 mph (GPS). The T8 pushes it at about 5.9 mph  And a lot quiter and less stinky. Gotta go with the electric for sure!!

I am another proud owner of a T8 w/elec & tilt. If I had it to do over I would get exactly the same thing. I have a TR-1 on mine and that makes it even better great combo and a very quite motor.

Not like you need more input, but go with the T8, electric start, trim and tilt. Simply an awesome engine, quiet and smooth.

There's a guy up here in North Idaho that uses a T8 for trolling his 41' Searay (Sunrig), and he fishes most of the Dery's and does well! That boat is a monster I can't imagine what it weights, but the T8 W/TR1 does the job!

Got one on my 23 foot Edwing, it pushes it about 6 mph, works like a dream.

In my opinion the best kicker on the market.

Yup, I too have the Hi Thrust Yamaha 8 with power tilt and electric start. I added a small tach/hour meter and another tilt switch back by my rear transom. Because I have a 30" deep swim platform and a remote steering station I added the additional tilt switch to make it easier and faster for me. My boat is 24'.

The T-8 with Elect Start and Trim tilt is the best trolling motor I have ever owned,I also have a Tr-1 Gold which makes it even better.

My buddy has the non-elec tilt version (model F8 I think) on his 21' Seaswirl Striper and pushes it around without any problems, even in the lower CR tidal surge. For that reason, I bought the T8 for my boat and have loved it. I wasn't sure about the electric tilt at first... but it's awesome. Quiet, strong & dependable. It’ll push my 21 motionmarine @ just under 7MPH.

OK, so I'll VERY slightly disagree on one issue. I have the Yamaha 8 and love it, and highly recommend it. But mine has to do double duty -- kicker on the offshore boat and main power on a small lake/river boat. Thus -- no electric start or trim. The base engine is 83 pounds -- heavy but not impossible to carry around and change boats (my old 9.9 two-stroke was 59 pounds). Pull start is always on the first or second pull. It is a little awkward to move the engine up and down on a manual bracket, but it isn't something I do often. So I guess where I'm headed is that you can save a few bucks and a few pounds and go non-electric if the budget or use expectations demand it. BTW, I wouldn't trade this 83-pound 8hp for my old 9.9 two-stroke for all the tea in China! In a 13-foot aluminum boat with three adults plus fishing gear it will get up on plane easily. On my inflatable I can do 14.7 mph using less than a gallon an hour -- incredible fuel efficiency.

I like mine.. goign on the 3rd season, this year though had troubles getting it running.. and it has alwasy been very cold blooded.. this year the dealer put in a new carb for me.. and I have yet to run it yet after that.. i'm hoping that will make all the difference in the world..

other then that.. great motor.

Ordinarily I'd agree with everyone else, until today. My T8 electric start and tilt was my rescue when my main motor had trouble with an oil warning buzzer going off. I shut the main down, and was using the T8 to get to port, when it died. It was like it was gas starved. The buld was firm, and I could get it going with the choke on, after many attempts. It would only run for a few seconds though. Now I'm looking at time to get it to a shop.

Anyone have any ideas for the problem? Up till this is ran great. It has about 15 hours.

Hey that's almost exactly what mine was doing when I took it in for warrenty work. They said it smelled like old gas.. (although it was like a week old) and they replaced the carb for me under warrenty.

Thanks for the information. I'm sure they will take care of the problem.

Ichthyoid

Update: turned out to be water in the tank. Go figure, now I have an extra canaster on board to replace the water seperator. Something else to check before launch, make sure the gas jockey closed the gas cap all the way.
