I'm heading to Fraser, Colorado tomorrow for three weeks of volunteer work. Hopefully some of that time will consist of fishing. There is a great creek that runs through the camp w/ some awesome beaver ponds that hold some nice brook trout that I know are just waiting for me to give them a fly. Does anyone have any general fly tips that could help me out? Thanks!

I've had great luck fishing beaver ponds by finding the main channel. There will usually be a spot where the beaverdam is overflowing. Start from there and work your way up SLOWLY! That will hopefully be the end of the channel with a slight current through it. The water will be a little deeper and the bottom a little firmer. I usually use a Bead head pheasant and strip it. For some reason I haven't had much luck with dries in beaver dams

Good Luck

Hey Clacksteel,

Are you talking about Crooked Creek? I was just there from the 17th thru the 23rd - it sounds like we just missed each other. PM me and I will give you the scoop on where to fish and what to use. ( I am still shaking my head if that is where you are headed...)

That is actually exactly where I was! I was at the Crooked Creek Ranch property owned by Young Life to volunteer for 3 weeks. Unfortunately I didn't get to do any fishing because my fly rod, reel, and line were lost in transit to the camp. It was an absolutely amazing experience serving the Lord, even if I didn't get to fish at all.
