Hey all! I have a fly line with a loop connect to the leader and I need to know how to tie a decent knot that wont break on a steely. Anybody know a good knot for my application? :help: It would be really cool if someone had a step by step picture too. Thanks for your input guys!

I have loops on all my fly lines. I tie (or buy) my leaders with loops. Loop the leader loop through the line loop. If you have a multi-tip fly line, you know how it is done.

The knot I use for my leader loop is the perfection knot:

I second the perfection loop.

Perfection is the best. If you forget like I do use the figure eight, works as well but not as pretty.

i think he means connecting the flyline to the leader? then you would have perfection loops on both of em, then just do a loop-de-loop?

The question was:

Some fly lines come with a loop. I add Air-Flo loops to my fly lines.

ohh i get it now! He means the knot on the fly-line? I used a thing that came with a loop on the end, and you slide it up the fly-line (its a hassle) and then melt shrink tube on it... ends up with a loop at the end

Good stuff

Just get some backing and tie a nail knot around the end of the fly line that you have looped over.

Or if your really lazy (I wouldn't know anything about this), get a package of pre-tied bobber stops at joes for $.99 and use those.

The fly line already has the loop the way I read it. If its a sink tip the a simple over hand knot can be tied to make the loop on a 5 ft section of Maxima. Then just loop to loop with the fly line. No taper needed. Lets not make it harder than it really is. Same goes for a tapered 10 ft leader for a floater.. BUT cut off a bit of the heavy butt section first.

Even though it is harder to tie, I use a Nail Knot to connect my fly line and leader and then double surgeons for the tippet.

Sorry for the confusion, but I have a multi-tip fly line with about 6 inches of heavy mono attached to each tip with a loop at the end. I just wanted to know a decent loop knot that I could tie to attach my leader to my fly line. Thanks for all the advice guys! It really helped.
