How do you choose which size anchor to use - I know its got to be based on weight and length of the boat and current is a factor - but I don't want to get a 40lb'er if I only really need a 25 -

I don't know of a formula, but I know that most people use 25-28 on a 20 ft aluminum boat. BTW, length and size of chain is probably the bigger factor than the weight of the anchor. 10 ft of 5/16 chain dramatically helps the anchor hook up.
Post the size/kind of boat, and I'm sure you'll get more specific information.
